Frustrating.

Significant update on winter weather this weekend for the Brazos Valley:
We've seen enough to indicate that we'll see at least some sort of wintry precipitation this coming SATURDAY.
Exactly what type will be fine tuned in the next day or two, but freezing rain and sleet appear to be the most likely at this point, with a chilled rain to start and at least a brief switchover to aforementioned mix Saturday afternoon. Colder, drier air then should slowly but surely choke off the moisture and clear things out before the weekend is done, but with temperatures expected to drop well below freezing Saturday night, we expect at least minor travel issues through that time and to at least start Sunday.
What it's TOO SOON to tell
-Accumulation totals: Even precip type is a stretch to resolve at this point, but it's best we prepare for at least SOME accumulation, leading to travel issues, especially Saturday night through Sunday morning.
-Infrastructure issues: This greatly depends on WHAT falls and how much accumulates. My greatest concern at the moment is travel, but we can't rule out power outages at this point, especially farther north.
The biggest thing you NEED to prepare for: The COLD. Temperatures will dip down to the 30s Friday night, and we may not climb above freezing from Saturday night through Monday midday, if we can't get any sunshine Sunday.
Weather models have come a LONG way in that we have several days to "prepare" for the cold, but there's still a LOT of work to do in terms of specific impacts for the area, so that's what I suggest you stay tuned for while we keep things comparatively warm. Things stay quiet through Friday morning, and we recover quickly headed into next week.
One more thing: In terms of cold, this is NOTHING like what Texas experienced in 2021, in severity or duration. This is a different type of weather event where travel and trees/power may be most affected, but even in the "worst case" scenario, we look climb out of the ice box pretty quickly next week.
Stay with us and we'll keep you updated!
