There's a short YouTube video on this page that is extremely informative- entertaining even. In two minutes you'll get the gist.

And, there's about 22 miles of bike and pedestrian paths as a part of this project… 11 miles in either direction, I think. Bike riders will be able to go from north Bryan to south College Station safely- for those of you that are into that sort of thing.

who will bike from north Bryan to S. CS in July and August? Nobody. Nobody is the answer to the question. How much, exactly, is the state paying for a bike paths that will get practically no use?

Who is the contractor and in what way is he connected to the decision makers at TxDOT or someone in TXLeg?

What a farce.

You'd have to visit with TxDOT on those funding issues. But I can think of a half dozen major events in biking and running- a marathon for one, that could be held on it. And, while I agree there's a lot of folks that don't want to bike in August, don't sell the passion of the local biking community short.

Sure, all 237 of them... a whopping .16% of the community.

Can't wait to use the pedestrian path to take a leisurely stroll next to 6 lanes of highway traffic in 5-7 years.

" A highway bypass is a road constructed to reroute through-traffic around a built-up area like a city center to reduce congestion and improve safety within that area"

A highway bypass is designed to go around a city and not through a city. Of course I am not a traffic engineer so what do I know.

Considering development on the east side, it's no longer a bypass.

If only there could be an east loop around everything.

You can refer to those new multi-use paths as Psychopaths if it makes you feel better. The runners (and cyclists) who are out there churning the miles all year, summers included, are looking forward to them!

I get so tired of the arguments about not building something because it's hot 2 months out of the year. Can you imagine if we had no baseball fields, soccer fields, running trails, parks, etc just because it's hot 2-3 months a year??

This isn't the 70's where they were telling people it's bad for your health to exercise LOL

So you'd rather spend tens of millions of common funds that benefits a sliver of the community.

All the other things you listed benefit a pretty large portion.

Oh and I suspect they aren't just for recreation...likely help meet ADA requirements...or is that just another sliver to ignore?

I've noticed they like putting these paved trails near schools. I suspect it helps kiddos get to and from school, or at least that's the thinking. The one that is on the bypass already is near Sam Rayburn.

Just curious, do you also get mad when bikes are riding in the road?

You should try getting out of the BCS area more. Cities are building bike and pedestrian paths everywhere...even in Texas! They promote an active lifestyle and aid in bikers and other mobility devices another method to get around. Not everyone wants to drive

I have no issues with bikes on the road provided they follow the traffic laws.

Along major divided highways? And how do electric bicycles and scooters contribute to "active lifestyle?"

That money could be spent on improvements that benefit a larger proportion of taxpayers.

Honestly, the last month it's been hard to get over 45mph on most of the main part… I drove home going 18 the other night - it's truly no longer a 'bypass'

When Greens Prairie was widened a few years back they put in shared use paths on both sides and I remember thinking what a waste of money. But now they are crowded with bikes, runners, people walking their dogs, and best of all groups of kids walking to and from somewhere. Anything to encourage people to get outside and do things in the real world is money well spent in my book.

CoCS council is taking this up on their agenda today.

Quote:

7.4. Presentation, discussion, and possible action regarding an ordinance temporarily amending
Chapter 38, "Traffic and Vehicles," Article VI "Traffic Schedules," Section 38-1013 "Traffic
Schedule XIII, Temporary Speed Limits," of the Code of Ordinances of the City of College Station,
Texas regarding the speed limits on State Highway 6 and frontage roads.

I may go. I would like to know just exactly what CoCS council can do about this.
Bob any ideas, or is this FYI agenda item.

We're obliged to pass it is my opinion as one member of council. With all the cones and barrels and shifting of lanes, I'm sure it's safer for everyone to slow down.

TxDOT has said they are going to have two lanes open in both directions throughout this project. Sounds like a logistical challenge to pull that off, but that's what they've said.

These limits should be removed from a section when the construction on the section is complete. I'm not sure how to qualify that, but maybe TXDOT has a plan they can share.

Nope. The whole thing stays low for the duration. See William Joel Bryan where it's still 30 near the bypass although construction there was completed months and months ago. (No one goes that slow there either.)

Per TXDOT, the contractor will post the reduced limits as necessary during construction. These limits will *not* be universal for the entire corridor for the entire duration of the project. They do not expect any city signage responsibilities related to the reductions in speed.
