If your 68 and not really a rich Ag, is College Station still a great place to retire? Or should the big cigars just consider rich ranches?
do you live in Bandera or Kerrville and so "progress in life?"

Yes, it is a great place to retire. Find a church where you'll fit in, get involved in volunteering at one of the local organizations, get a good circle of friends, and enjoy all the activities/events on campus. We've often said that we should have moved here 10 years earlier.

Can't imagine a better place to retire. Other than potentially the cost of a home the cost of living is easy. Get some tickets to a sport not called football or baseball, go to Opus shows and as someone else said get involved around the community. It's quiet and relatively crime free.

Even the house thing isn't bad. My MIL moved here last year and bought a 1600SF home around Nantucket for $330k. Beautiful, well kept home that she's thrilled with. They are out there for sure. Just need to be patient.

Watch the property taxes and utility costs here. Otherwise, a great choice.

Property tax warning would specifically be for a MUD - Southern Pointe and a few others. CSU utilities higher electricity rates than BTU but not significantly higher than many other areas in the state or the south.

The big cigars are in Washington County and drive a little farther to BCS/Aggieland. Imus in the Morning retired out there and sadly passed a while ago in the C-Stat Scott & White. Rick Perry's ranch is out there too.

I'm very happy to have retired here. I came to BCS in 1990 as a 20-something single woman just beginning my professional career as a faculty member at TAMU. I met my husband here, have 3 adult children, 4 grandchildren (with #5 due next month), mostly retired in 2023 (still do a bit of consulting), and couldn't be happier to call this place home.

Same as with the 10 miles or more on FM1155 north of Chappell Hill. There must be a couple of dozen retricted subdivision of 3 to 15 or more acres already there and being built.

If you want to avoid COCS taxes and issues, King Oaks is a great location and about 15 to 20 minutes to Tower Point shopping and to S/W. The little subdivision on Hwy 90 east of Navasota looks nice for small acreage. With Nav getting an HEB, shopping options within a few miles would be nice, Small town like Anderson are also nice,

I drive about 28,000 to 30,000 miles a year in six counties here and am amazed at the RE growth in the area. a decade or so years from now traffic will be 10X what it is now.

Check out the Arts Center's web site https://www.acbv.org/ to get a sense of the variety of visual and performing arts events that go on. As someone else mentioned, Aggie sports, especially women's sports, are popular with retirees,
