They're building some sort of two-story structure on what was the parking lot near the cafeteria. I know they're doing interior facelifts, but I have no idea what the structure is.

What's going into AMCHS under the bond

Here are the confirmed additions and renovations planned for A&M Consolidated:
1. Additions & Renovations to the High School Building
A ~62,500 sq ft addition that will include:
New science labs
Special programs classrooms
A new bus loop
Interior renovations including:
ReDoing existing science classrooms & labs to bring them up to TEA standards
Expansion & upgrades of the weight room
Better sports medicine / athletic support spaces (locker rooms, coaches' offices)
Interior finish improvements (paint, floors, etc.)
2. Fieldhouse / Athletic Facilities
The fieldhouse at A&M Consolidated will be expanded and renovated.
Renovations of the Tiger Stadium: increasing seating, replacing/restoring pressbox, restrooms, concession stands, entrances, and ticket booths.
3. Baseball/Softball / Stadium / Site Upgrades
At the baseball/softball stadiums: converting grass fields to artificial turf, adding LED lights.
Expand seating in the softball stadium; renovate press box and ticket booth; modifying sidewalks / parking as needed around that area.
4. Other site / access improvements
Due to additions, there will be site improvements, especially for access from the fieldhouse to adjacent stadiums / baseball fields.
Modifications to parking, entrances and circulation around the added structures.

Timeline & Budget
The Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for the AMCHS additions & renovations (as part of the 2023 bond) is $38,878,808.
Construction is set to begin in spring of 2025 (around March), with substantial completion expected by summer 2026.

Yeah, but that addition is in a weird place. If it's for science labs and other stuff...and assuming its two floors, it's nowhere near the rest of the science labs, it's next to the cafeterias and gyms, and not continuous with the other two levels...unless there's some major reconfiguration like building a second floor on top of the existing cafeteria.

I don't see the concern here. Additions are sometimes where you have to put them and not where you'd ideally want them. Just gotta make do sometimes. Only so many options.

They should've done what New Braunfels is doing. Build a new HS directly next to the current one, then demolish the current one in phases as things are moved over to the new facility.

Where can I find out what other bond projects are going on? I drive by CSHS almost daily and am curious what is going on. Besides the sports fields, there are additions going up right now. Just wondering what it will look like when it's completed.

CSHS is getting additional science labs, classrooms and restrooms on either side of the building (which is what you are starting to see now) as well as another auxiliary gym among other things including fine arts. It will look to match the existing school as much as possible.

That would have been nice, but they probably didn't have $267 million dollars to spend,

More like $350 million plus in 2025 dollars to build a high school the size of Consol.

You're probably correct. The NB began at the $267 and ended up being $313 million $. Now probably $400 million,

NB has about 1950 students and Consol has about 2150, similar size,

If the school board proposed that, we would have a revolution,

WRONG!

If they did, we would have one of those sports palaces like there are around the state.
We did, however, need upgrades to the facilities that we currently have. The sad thing is we need way more upgrades than are currently scheduled. When the next bond proposal comes out in a few years, I can already hear the squalling, "we just passed bonds 'x' number of years ago for this, why didn't they do it then?"

So we didn't see bonds for baseball fields three times in a row until it finally passed?

Ok.

6 negative comments about the school's bond project. This board is almost as insufferable as the football board. God forbid the school do positive improvements to the schools using the bond project money the voters approved...

Perhaps, but it's different sources of money, Higher Ed get much more state budget money for oil/gas revenues whereas local school boards, although they have sufficient funds, have to be more carful on capital investments,

What has helped here is the number of students in private, charter and home schools, If there were if public school, CS and Bryan would have at least one more high school and many more lower level schools.,

And when they removed the grass/dirt to install the turf they discovered it was build on concrete. It makes sense because there were more marshy areas all over the field than there should have been on a proper field. I saw a Conroe player break his leg on that field.

Also, some grandma fell through stands in 2018 that were from the 70's with wood boards and splits wide enough for a toddler to fall through. That's what it took for the stands to be replaced.

Yes the old stands at the Consol baseball field that were replaced after that lady fell through then were from the old Consol football stadium on Anderson street that opened in the late 60's.

That's a big part of the bonds that were advertised on yard signs all over those evil "purple" neighborhoods.

Sure this is old news but there is zero reason to replace ticket booths as ….. schools don't use them anymore.
Everyone uses online tickets.
When is the last time you have seen anyone in a ticket booth?

And there is is even less of a reason to increase seating at Tigerland Stadium.
Redo the pressbox and make some rennovations? Sure , it's the exact same pressbox and stadium that was built in 1989.
But when is the last time there was a standing room only crowd in the main seating sections? Early 90's

At every football game, soccer game, and track meet. That's where they scan tickets.

Last season.

Those posts show that you are making definitive comments without information.

That's why I'm glad that it kept getting put on the ballot. Those of us that are really informed and cared kept voting "yes" until it passed.

We don't have kids that went to Consol, but those improvements were needed.

Maybe you've never seen the visitor side, that might be what they're gonna expand because it's awfully small. That stadium fills up quite often if you haven't been to a game since the early 90s. A little too nothing has been put in to that stadium since it was first built in 1989. It's way overdue.

Other than the CS game when is the last time Consol stands were packed?
Ill give you that one but lets not pretend that its a standing room only crowd every game.
Is the stadium overdue for a renovation, way past overdue.
Do they need to build a big seating capacity stadium? absolutely not

Look at big stadiums in our area, Montgomery added on to their stadium, Waller ISD, Magnolia HS, Magnolia West HS, Tomball, ..they all built big stadiums and each Friday the stands are about 55-65% filled.
Merrill Green is a big stadium and its usually half full for games.
Huntsville ISD was only school to build recently and not go overboard with capacity.

And as far as ticket booths.. they scan the tickets at the gate. They do not utilize the ticket booths, they have not utilized actual ticket booths for years.
Independence H-D

Consol fills the stands pretty regularly. Those stands are very old and very worn out. I know exactly how old they are because I worked on the crew that built them as a summer job when I graduated in 1989. The increase in capacity is not large and it is important. But, not as important as replacing the infrastructure of the stands and the press box.

The fieldhouse and athletic training facilities are woefully outdated and inadequate.

The ticket booths do get used in inclement weather and will probably be more to utilized now that it won't t be essentially a brick closet

The stadium/facility has outlived it's expected lifespan.

The upgrades to Athletic and academic infrastructure across the district are not only a good thing. They are a necessary thing.

The playoff games they hosted.

The Magnolia schools also brought a lot of fans to both CSHS and Consol.

Incorrect. We've had ours scanned at the ticket booth since my kids have been in school.
They get used in inclement weather.

We have kids in multiple sports and activities at CSHS and we have friends with kids the do the same at Consol. I go to a lot of athletic and non-athletic events at both schools.
I'm not giving opinions, I'm giving facts.

As much as you may hate it, the renovation were needed. And now they are getting done.

I'm sure you'll figure out another way to move the goalposts to justify your statements.
