How long do you want to ignore this user?
Just saw this video of the future improvements on Hwy 6. Some sound good but others, I'm not so sure about.

I don't think I like that exit to Harvey road, exiting before University and taking that new bridge.

I am glad to see them moving the left hand exit to Texas Ave. Northbound. That will keep traffic moving on Hwy 6.

I still can't believe they didn't make it 3 lanes both ways back when they did all the highway work and exit re-do's the last time, but oh well.

This will take forever but I think most of the changes will be very positive.

Agree exiting Harvey before you even get to University is a little weird, and I'm not a fan of the diverging diamond but whatever.

Biggest win by far is them finally changing the business 6 exit.

Last I saw they were extending the three lanes only as far south as WDF. This is a grievous mistake that we in South CS will suffer for until addressed again, years in the future I'm sure. The three lane extension south has to go all the way to the Peach Creek/FM159 interchange.

I hope they will reconsider and plan for the future for once. Maybe they have? I didn't watch the presentation.

IMHO Business 6 exit should come first. This is the point of the most congestion. I do not regularly drive this way, but when I do I see a lot of issues, even with light traffic days.

Shared use paths the whole way. That should come to about $13,548 for each time it gets used.

I might be one of the few, but I am excited about the diverging diamond at University and 6.
That helps every issue at that intersection.

When does construction start and when is it scheduled to be completed?

Starts this summer. 5 year project, so should finish up around 2030 or 2031.

People complain about the traffic.

People complain about what it takes to fix the traffic.

Some remarks from seeing the schematics:
- No buildings appear to be in the way, a welcome change from what I've seen in Houston
- I'm not sure about two lanes exiting SB to Highway 40.
- Highway 40 is getting a continuous flow intersection, but only eastbound. This means an additional stoplight between the frontage road and Arrington, but only if you're heading westbound.
- There is "sort of" a continuous frontage road between Harvey Mitchell Pkwy. and Rock Prairie, provided you use the on-ramp to get back on the sub-ramp between them. This is also a way to sort of rebuild the southbound ramp back onto Harvey Mitchell...
- ...but that also means no exit onto Deacon, and exiting on Rock Prairie becomes substantially more complicated
- The frontage road on the southbound side flies over University Drive, but you'll have to take a ramp from the northbound side to stay on the frontage road since all three lanes will turn left onto University.
- Re-entering the highway from Briarcrest SB is very close to where the old entrance ramp was; once again FBC churchgoers will have to go down to University Drive if they want to enter the freeway.
- Any plans of connecting Oak Hill together...dead.
- The entrance to Boonville is essentially unchanged where it is. The "dotted line" shared area only marginally fixes the existing problems of the NB from University Drive entering and the SB exiting to Boonville.
- No more left turn from Boonville into the Kroger shopping center. It's turn right or bust.
- Nothing was added in regards of Sam Rayburn.
- The third lane NB simply ends by merging back into the freeway just north of Old Reliance. When it came to 290 in Houston, the old pre-2019 construction had the third lane exit off at Mason Road, now the inner lane went away just east of FM 362. In Highway 6, it's the outer lane that merges away.
- Woodville Road still isn't changed, nor is the abrupt 2 lane/one lane change at Woodville on the frontage road.

Four lanes from 40 to 21. Three lanes north to OSR, south to 105. The only thing that makes sense.

The University Drive interchange is going to be a cluster.

Only good thing I see about it will be the feeder road lanes that don't have to stop at the light.

Overall mostly positive changes, the only thing I think is shortsighted is not taking the opportunity now to go ahead and add a 4th lane each way so we would be future proofed for the next few decades. I have a feeling by the time this project is done there will still be backups on hwy 6 just not as extreme.

That is true. It was probably 100 yards from our backyard at the time. Kind of like this new east loop cutting through people's property. Back to the future.

The new SB exit past Emerald Pkwy looks to combine Texas Ave, Deacon, Rock Prairie, Graham, and Barron. Each one will peel off of the new thru-feeder.

A fourth lane would mean all the bridges have be torn down and rebuilt.

True, but I suspect it's all about money that the district gets being spread out over many projects over the next decade.

What they need to is consider have a dedicated left lane for vehicles over 25,000 pounds or whatever net weight that are going through the county. One, it would lower traffic on the other lanes and have only one lane to resurface every few years due to the vehicle weight.
Chewy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Has that ever been done? I've often thought it would be a great idea to have a dedicated through lane with no exits but just never seen it done except for HOV lanes.

If you've been here long enough.......

Every couple of decades they shift the exits back to where they were before.

Yes! This current plan fixes the past but does nothing for the future

Glad to see at least this, but why wouldn't they consider growth in the future and plan ahead and learn from this??

EDIT: I posted before reading PSD3 post. His post does make sense…I guess the bridges would all have to be re-done with a 4th lane. So it doesn't make sense to have that 4th

I just don't want this project to be used as an excuse to further delay the GB/Welborn intersection project. That underpass is way more needed than the expansion to HWY 6.

You do realize this is more equivalent to dog years and will likely be finished closer to 2040 or 2050.

I like most of the improvements and feel they are needed/overdue, but don't look forward to the years of construction.

Knowing how TX Dot and the cities plan, that project will probably be done simultaneously as the HWY 6 project, giving folks even less options when going north/south.

then maybe they could add turnarounds, too. seems like a great opportunity.

I was talking last week with the project manager from the company that won the bid. He made it sound like they were going to do everything in their power to get it knocked out in the set time line or sooner. The sooner they can knock it out, the sooner they can move on to the next project according to him. Keep your fingers crossed.
