Did On The Border close? I just dtove past, and it looked as if that was the case.
Just heard that landlord locked doors due to payment dispute (lack of)
On the Border was a solid restaurant 10 to 15 years ago and has gone down since. Bad management, untrained staff, below aveage food, and pricy food will do you in.
Yes, bad beyond bad. No idea how it even stays open.

Plus,

It's really hard to find.....

Because it's off the map.....

I do see that the La Quinta has totally stopped taking reservations. Hopefully it will be razed soon, too.

La Quinta is going to be a boutique style hotel.

Taco Cabana and Rice Garden site is going to be Portilla's.
I went to their website and no prices...That makes me wonder what the prices will be?

I have read that the La Quinta location is going to be a hotel owned by TRINITY HOTEL 5 LLC DBA RODEWAY INN which is a Choice Hotel brand.

Rodeway Inn are usually cheap hotels. That would be lipstick on a pig.

The term Botique has been way overused in the lodging industry. The Roadway in Caldwell is call a Botique Hotel.

A whole hour?

Seems excessive.

Funny store that's real.

We used to drive down Hwy 59 from Lufkin when my son was around 7 or 8 and there was a motel on the right in Houston that had a large flashing sign that advertised "Rooms, $5 per hour."

Every time my son asked about it, which was about every time we drive by, I would say, Oh, it's for truckers that are tired and just want to sleep for an hour or two.

The parking lot was always near full in the evenings.

I am a diehard Portillo's fan.

Where are you hearing this is going to be a Portillo's? They just announced a San Antonio location yeserday.

I was thinking of driving just to one of the Houston locations to eat some hotdogs and then immediately go back to Bryan. This would be huge news if true.

Overrated? Portillo's kicks ass. I just go for the dogs but my best friends back up north are all about the Italian beef.

Portillo's just announced a San Antonio location yesterday. Waiting for that B/CS location announcement.

Portillo's is quite overrated. Only thing worth getting are the Chicago dogs.
Dude....just dooooood!

Portillos is awesome!!! the dogs, Chicago dogs, Italian beef etc. When we go to Chicago we (wife, daughter and I) literally order like one of everything then share.

I've been to one (the one?) in Chicago and enjoyed it. But we went to the one in The Colony last year and were not impressed. Beef sandwich was bland and sopping wet. Like I said though, the Chicago dog was good. Maybe I'm just not an Italian beef sandwich guy.

I have not tried a Portillo's in Texas yet. I eat at Portillo's every day for lunch when I am back in the Chicagoland area. I am not an Italian beef guy myself. I just hope the dogs taste the same down here as they do up there.

I practically lived off Portillo's when I was up in Schaumburg every other month. Recently went to one in Phoenix a few months ago, and the hot dogs were just not the same. I need to grab an Italian beef next time out there and see how it fares. I'm a sucker for those.

I'd still have to go to Hot Dogs, Etc. for the chili dogs, though.

I dated a girl from Schaumburg years and years ago. I am from Batavia, western suburbs, if you've ever heard of it. Near Aurora/Naperville area.

That is discouraging about the hot dogs not being the same in AZ. I usually have Portillo's shipped to me once a year.

Facebook posters say Bill Millers BBQ and Laguna Madre Seafood are going in this spot, Texags users say Portillos, and Oldham Goodwin is actively marketing the land as pad sites available. Glad we got that cleared up.

I know Batavia, I've spent a lot of time all over the area when my company was doing a lot of business with Motorola.

I haven't shipped Portillo's in about 7 years. My wife ordered the hot dog kit for my 40th and it was great.

Maybe a Bill Miller BBQ, but Papas Restaurants owns the old Red Lobster site and also owns the former S/W clinic site and nothing here yet.

Yes, it is been known that Bill Miller owns the land, so why would they be marketing it if they planned to open one of their restaurant concepts on the property? That is why I am thinking it isn't going to be a Bill Miller.

I do hope with the La Quinta buildings south of Live Oak torn down and the empty lot behind it just being sold, there would be something more interesting and comprehensive than a couple of standalone restaurants built there.

the La Quinta north of Live Oak is now a Rodeway Inn. Not sure if they bought the other side of Live Oak. Will know later today.

They did not. Demolition permits were issued for those two buildings south of Live Oak in December to AgShacks.

I'm originally from San Antonio and I'd love to see a Bill Millers go in there. I wonder if we're too far from SA because they do all the cooking there still?

Last time I talked to Chris Pappas their was litigation ongoing at the S&W property over S&W failing to disclose some things, so that may be the reason no activity there

I seem to recall a similar sign from the 70's driving into Dallas from the south on I35 just across the river.
