How long do you want to ignore this user?
Hello,

I'm trying to help my wife find some work during the day while our son is in school. She is from speaks limited English. Fully eligible to work in the US, has SSN and employee authorization, etc.

Her English is plenty good enough to have a conversation with you, but I would describe it to others as a little choppy and not good enough yet to be customer facing in an English-speaking position. She is well educated with two degrees, owns her own business back in Venezuela. She is an extremely hard worker and has done jobs in the past few years from things like being a Goya event coordinator in Houston and all over Texas to working as a consultant/liaison for visa processing companies helping South Americans with paperwork setting up travel and educational visas, etc.

Obviously the language barrier hamstrings her here, and she's taking English courses to improve, but the other challenge is finding something that fits the schedule of her son. Her availability would be M-F as early as 6:30am and up to 2:30pm or so. Maybe 3pm if it's close to south CS.

I know the combination of her current English + availability only being weekdays and early hamstrings her from many positions, but if anyone happens to know someone who might be able to used a very well educated and personable person, or if there's a Spanish-speaking job/office that is in need she'd be a perfect fit.

If you know of something you can reply here or email me at txaggies2211 @ yahoo dot com.

Thanks for reading and any consideration or suggestions you might be able to offer!

I don't have anything, but you could have her take a look at the local healthcare organizations like St. Joseph or BSW.

I don't know if she would find the role interesting, however I have to think there may be some bi-lingual needs in these organizations.

Maybe something in the school district like a teachers aid or simply substitute teaching? Hours would be close to matching what you describe.

I would check the A&M job board and see what they might have.

Also, A&M has a lot of mentors for students. There might be a need for some wone biligual?

My wife is a mentor part-time three days a week.

Does it have to be a paying job? She could start by volunteering at one of the healthcare facilities. It would give her an opportunity to have some English interaction, but yet still be able to utilize her Spanish expertise with the high number of Spanish speakers. She could then basicallyname her own time, and maybe get a feel if she likes that industry.

I second this and maybe check Blinn in this regard too.

Pretty sure College Hills Elementary alone has a few openings for a bi-lingual Para-professional. Get emergency certified to teach and she could pick a school/grade for the dual language program...
