Councilman David White, Place 3 believes Northgate is too important to rush, and we must stop to get a plan first and open an RFP for who can best meet that plan. He does not approve.
Councilwoman Melissa McIlhaney, Place 4 cannot approve in good faith. She ran on a platform of neighborhood integrity. And money cannot cloud our judgment. She does not approve of the contract.
Councilman Bob Yancy, Place 5 thinks the proposal is undeveloped and maximizes ROI based on student housing to the detriment of history. "Our history is more important than money." He calls it the most poorly developed proposal he has seen on council. He does not approve the contract.
It will fail 4-3

Much to Nichols' dismay. I am pretty shocked that the people's opinions and input actually made a difference.
Councilman Scott Shafer, Place 6 is a professional planner. He has "had his mind changed." We need more input. Constructive input. We need to back it up a notch make a good decision. It looks like he will be voting to not approve. Actual vote forthcoming.
Mayor Nichols is… not taking this well.

Well, this was a pleasant surprise. The temp felt much different on this less than 3 hours ago.

I suspect that they will go back out for an RFP after six months or so and the plan that Oldham Goodwin submitted will be very similar to what gets selected.

I would have had more respect for the mayor if he voted the way he wanted to vote rather than switching last minute because he knew he was in the minority to try and act like he was listening to citizens. He also left the two council members out to dry.

They could not sell it, but Not very likely. Way too much development pressure, most of the stakeholders don't want it to stay a normal surface lot.

FTFY. Change.org petitions are usually just hot air and it just punts the idea of redeveloping the surface lot. They sure aren't going to "turn it into a plaza" as the poorly-written petition suggests.MsDoubleD81 said:

I don't remember who he ran against, but in my notes I had written , "wright.is wrong". It was the first election for me to vote.

Yeah next round if he runs I will vote for whoever runs against William Wright, no matter who it is.
The capstone team is not what I would consider overly creative developers. Their proposal actually was very basic, the OG with the additional land was the better option.
It sounds like Oldham was also considering a hotel for one of the two lots.
Also, with OG, the money would stay in BCS.
