Haven't been to laynes in awhile. I was pleasantly surprised to see they have spicy tenders, but also surprised to see that the portion sizes have gotten smaller

There used to be some local variation when the founder still owned the stores here. Now, all of the locations are under the big umbrella. I used to be a huge Layne's fan, ate there from the opening in '94. It's fallen out of the rotation these days.

Haven't been to Laynes in a couple of years. The last few times the strips were small and narrow and the fries were cold left overs, half small pieces. I even asked about the fries and all the guy said, that is what we had and turned around on me.

Adios Amigos. Too much competition in town for that.

BTW, if you are ever in the area, the best chicken strips and gravy in the area is the convenience store in Lyons.

And Yikes! The price increase. 2 boxes with drink for $27.

yea, was going to say...it did seem too commercialized too. The price seemed high, but assumed that was just normal inflation

They do offer smaller (or larger) boxes now. I'm a fan of that since I usually didn't eat all the original box size.

Always thought Laynes was garbage, but there is one by me in Houston that is actually good. They serve big juicy tenders instead of tiny little dried up pieces like the original always sold.

Had Laynes today and was thinking the tenders were much smaller than they used to be. I'll hit Zaxby's next time. No Cain's this far south.

Gave up on Laynes after ordering a batch for a game watch and an unsettling number of the tenders were undercooked (literally had blood come out of them when cut).

Good luck to y'all

I was thinking that with the Layne's restaurants all being corporate now (with the expanded menu the franchised restaurants had--milkshakes, new sauces, etc.) they would be closer to the Houston version than before.

No need for Laynes. Dave's Hot Chicken is the best in town.

Katy Cinco Ranch? That one has huge portions.

No, Oak Forest. Like I said, it's actually good and serves big pieces compared to the original college station store which was terrible. Never understood the obsession with that place.

Chicken Express spicy tenders is my choice. Laynes has dropped way down the list. They must get their fingers from the same place that Wings n More gets their wings.

Layne's has also fallen out of our rotation the last few years. Prices have increased, quality has gone down. It seems like I always have to wait way too long for a restaurant that only has like three menu items.

I hate to say it, but Cane's is our choice now.

The convenience store on the corner of Hwy 60 and Hwy 50 has great chicken strips but dropped their gravy. I need gravy to dip my strips in.

To me, Chicken Express is the most consistant and best in BCS.

Layne's was worse than Cane's in literally every way when I started school in 2017.

Laynes is dog food

Layne's has always been really mediocre food where you could get a mountain of food compared to other fast food places for a comparable price.

When you take that "mountain of food" aspect away it loses appeal quickly.

Yes. Almost on the corner of hwy 36 and Hwy 60 going west. I have had the strips probably more than a dozen times when I was working in the area and never dissapointed.

This. I still stand amazed that this place ever made it off the ground much less became a chain. That truth will always be a great mystery that defies true comprehension.

As for the infamous "sauce". I finally gave this place a try after it had been open several years because someone close to me kept trumpeting the "sauce." One of life's greatest culinary jokes was played on me lol.

It became a place because Aggies were itching for something that was hole in the wall authentic. It's happened so many times in this town.

I won't name names but there's that certain Mexican place that never was good and sucks today, but people rave about it.

I understand. We've seen it over and over. I've been here since the late 70's. Freebirds, Double Dave's, Wings n More and I'm sure a smattering of others. None are culinarily supernatural or anything, but Layne's flat sucks.
