I know there are some that live at the Chancellor's house, but that's a good ways away.

Straub and Thousand Oaks. We live in the suburbs outside of Wellborn.
I have heard of folks seeing them further East. Never in your area. Once they get out, they are pretty hearty and can thrive in the wild.
I believe they can fly pretty well so it might be one of the chancellors. There are also some exotic animals off Rock Prairie and Texas heading east so maybe it's from there?
Related, there is an outfit called Exotic Meats online and if you wish to cook one of the damn things, they have them…for a price.

I'd try to keep him if you are in a rural environment.
I hear that they make great "watch dogs" which is why ranchers kept/keep them on their property.
I know this because both my parents that were raised on ranches back in the 40's and 50's sweared to this.
Also, I have fond memories of my childhood where one of the only sounds that you could hear in the remote areas of the Texas Hill Country in Burnet County was the shrill calls of the peacocks throughout the day & early evening.
