1775 is the correct answer.

I've been meaning to try Whats The Deal on 21, and I enjoy Blue Moon (but we live down OSR)

Just think of the rise and fall of some local BBQ places. Great opportunity to ask why.

Define good brisket. Everyone has there own particular "likes" when it comes to brisket. Some like it fatty, some like it lean, some like it crunchy. I like it pull apart tender. The fat gives it taste, but too much makes it greasy.. etc. etc.

Blue Moon, man I haven't been there in forever.
Nikki & Lamar does BBQ on Friday and Saturday, and it is highly underrated. That's become a Friday go-to for us at lunch since 1775 is too far out.

Smoke Daddies food truck is supposed to be amazing from the reviews of some of my friends. Their brisket grilled cheese gets rave reviews.

The new C&J I will say has been consistent, but still lower on my list. I do enjoy their chopped beef sandwiches.

1775 is the best, without having tried What's Tha Deal. I've heard a lot of good things about it.

Problem with 1775 is I work and live clear across town and just don't really have a chance to take a 2 hour lunch break that often.

Next would be C&J's, specifically the original location on Harvey/30. While I'd say they're a tier below the "craft" barbecue places like 1775, it's very good and very consistent. I get a brisket/JC plate with fried okra and ranch potatoes every week or two there.

Coopers may be a little better when it's good, but I've found it to be very inconsistent.

Also, you need to call 1775 before you go both to see if they are open and what they have available. Twice I have driven out there and they had a sign up that said they weren't opening as they were doing a catering job. Also, they will run out of some items once in a while.

They are very good.

If you follow them on Facebook, they keep everyone updated as to their schedule. They have been doing a lot of festivals this year like the one at Aggie Park.

They also have been known to sell over by TexAgs I believe on game days.

C&J is my every day go to. It's good, it's consistent, the people are excellent. And I can decide at 1:30 on Friday that it's what I want for lunch and immediately go get it.

Or Saturday night before a Sunday flight to California because you know you won't find decent brisket in Cali. And then seeing your coworker order a brisket sandwich Monday night for dinner and taking one look at the sliced brisket and knowing you made the right decision to not eat brisket in California.

Definitely the right decision.

My pellet smoker on my back porch. Slow and low for a long time, with Festa Brisket rub, and religious sprinting with apple cider vinegar every 30-60 mins.

1775 is on the other side of the planet. I hear good things about Whats the Deal, and I liked All the King's Men in ye olden days.

C&Js isn't bad if I want poultry, and good sides. Really good brisket is an elusive thing in BCS proper.

We had Blue Moon on Saturday. Very disappointing. The brisket resembled more of an overcooked roast, and the sausage was nothing special.

They're 3 for 3 in producing a very underwhelming experience for me.

This is actually what a lot of old school Jewish brisket looks like when done. An easy to ruin dish but quite nice when done right. I wonder if Big John just pulled a picture off the web and posted it as his…

Yeah, it's not super consistent these days. We stopped by a few weeks ago, and I would put the brisket that day over C&J by a pretty good distance, but still far from 1775. I got there at 1145, and they were already sold out of pulled pork

It might have gotten lost in my other post, but I highly recommend you give Nikki & Lamar's a try on Friday & Saturday. They are closed every third Saturday of the month I believe.
