Define good brisket. Everyone has there own particular "likes" when it comes to brisket. Some like it fatty, some like it lean, some like it crunchy. I like it pull apart tender. The fat gives it taste, but too much makes it greasy.. etc. etc.TimsParents said:

Also, you need to call 1775 before you go both to see if they are open and what they have available. Twice I have driven out there and they had a sign up that said they weren't opening as they were doing a catering job. Also, they will run out of some items once in a while.MyNameIsJeff said:
1775 is the best, without having tried What's Tha Deal. I've heard a lot of good things about it.
Problem with 1775 is I work and live clear across town and just don't really have a chance to take a 2 hour lunch break that often.
Next would be C&J's, specifically the original location on Harvey/30. While I'd say they're a tier below the "craft" barbecue places like 1775, it's very good and very consistent. I get a brisket/JC plate with fried okra and ranch potatoes every week or two there.
Coopers may be a little better when it's good, but I've found it to be very inconsistent.

C&J is my every day go to. It's good, it's consistent, the people are excellent. And I can decide at 1:30 on Friday that it's what I want for lunch and immediately go get it.

Or Saturday night before a Sunday flight to California because you know you won't find decent brisket in Cali. And then seeing your coworker order a brisket sandwich Monday night for dinner and taking one look at the sliced brisket and knowing you made the right decision to not eat brisket in California.

This is actually what a lot of old school Jewish brisket looks like when done. An easy to ruin dish but quite nice when done right. I wonder if Big John just pulled a picture off the web and posted it as his…
