I've had a Kroger Boost Membership for about a month, and I usually have the groceries delivered to my house. I usually stick with the default set tip of 5%, but I'm reading on forums that I should tip 10-20%. Based on my grocery bill, the tip usually comes out to $15-$20 when tipping at 5%.

Mentally, if I was expected to tip more than that. I'd just pay a neighbor kid to go do my grocery shopping for me. Thoughts?

My opinion is that you should tip on the physical size of the order and if they unload them and bring them into your house. $300 is a lot of groceries unless you are buying expensive items.

If I buy $250 worth of steaks, I'm not going to tip 10% because that's not a lot of work.
If I buy $250 worth of soup, cereal, milk, eggs, etc... I'm going to tip more because it's more work.

I would also recommend finding out if they are an employee or contracted. If they are contracted, they may be paying for their own fuel and they should be compensated for that.
I know we are the customers when we get stuff delivered, but we should take care of the people that are doing the convenience.

If the delivery person is self-employeed and using their own car and are relying on tips for an income, a typical 15% +/- tip or more would be appropriate with a considertion for time and distance. If the delivery person is a Kroger employee on their payroll and getting paid mileage, to me, 5 to 10% would be enough.

So, delivery in the College Station area Kroger's is contracted through Instacart. I'm not sure how much Instacart pays them per order. In other areas, it's actual Kroger employees and tips are not allowed at all.

Regardless, I'm picking my order up today because I'll be in town, and I have a coupon ($35 off $300 or more) that I can't use when having groceries delivered.
