I want to take a date to the first Friday market days and some local shopping and food/drinks. What are some nice places to stay that are within walking distance or a short Uber drive? TIA.

The LaSalle is reopened.
Not many options in downtown aside from the LaSalle. Next best option would prob be Century Square and uber. Staying at the George or Cavalry Court at Century square would give you a different set of dining/shopping, but adds Uber into the equation.
Stella at Lakewalk is another option if you are going to Uber anyway.
There's also a few B&Bs around. Milton Parker Estate for one.

I have heard about that Milton Parker Estate. May be an option.
I didn't know it closed. I stayed there on my wedding night after it was fairly new back in the day. Why was it closed?
Marriott bought the property under one of their boutique brands. Just finished a huge remodel. It looks great.
