I was told the other day that a Chinese restaurant is going in on University where the FedEx used to be. Can anyone confirm this?

If so, I hope it is Shun De Mom moving from their tower location where there is almost no free parking.

The place that announced in January was called Aki. Not sure if that is still happening as I haven't seen any progress.

I guess it will be Japanese restaurant? The whole inside has been gutted and with a pile of trash in the parking lot behind. Lots of new building supplies inside.

Man just what the city needs, another Japanese/Sushi concept. We need a damn goood Chinese restaurant and not a hybrid sushi and Chinese buffet. It's sad when Panda is better than the two Chinese only places in town.

You think Panda is better than Wokamole?

Wokamole and 555 are good.

I ordered takeout from Chef Cao's off the *authentic Chinese* menu and it was pretty darn good, which surprised me as I've found them pretty meh in the past.

The authentic page is very good. Unless you ask them what it is you will basically be ordering blind and thats half the fun.

Interesting take. A college student I mentored is the daughter of two Chinese immigrants who own a Chinese restaurant in the Austin area. Oishi was her favorite place in town.

It's a tiny hole in the wall place. Mostly take out but they have like 4 tables. Small family running it, husband, wife, maaaaaaaybe one other person occasionally.

They used to have a separate traditional menu but it's all together now online. They are in the shopping center on 29th near Carter Creek.

Seriously one of our family's favorites and I've got Charpie hooked too.

Love Wokamole...they're too close to my house so I order from them too often.

Wokamole is legit.

I do have a question for you chinese foodies here. Keep in mind that like trouble, I came from Austin. I lived near 183 and Spicewoods Springs Road where the true authentic Chinese restaurants in town were.

1. Why do you think Imperial is good? I have since gone to the reopened version and it's not any better than the original.
2. Why is chicken with mushrooms/mushroom chicken not called what everywhere else in the country calls it? I mean, it's moogoogaipan!

Oishi has a "traditional Chinese" menu separate from the regular American Chinese takeout fare (orange chicken, beef with broccoli, etc.)

Don't sleep on two other oddball places: Good Luck Good Time and Ten Second Noodle House. Discovered them on Door Dash and have been consistently happy.

The Panda comment was in jest but you all provided me with options that didn't exist. Still think we have a large % of sushi places in this city relatively speaking to population.

Options that you didn't know existed.

The market tends to overcorrect. It wasn't that long ago that atami was about the only choice for sushi.

Would die for a Szechuan place like Mala in Houston but I've learned to keep my expectation low around here.

A place like Wok Star or Fortune House in Dallas would do well in Century Square IMO.

100% a GOOD Chinese place would kill it in Century Square
