should be a reminder...never talk to the cops
Also, if your ex shows up at your house at 4 am, call the the cops. Don't talk to your ex, just call the cops. Even more so if your ex shows up in your house at 4 am.

Yeah. This situation was avoidable. If she had a key to your house when you broke up, you re-key immediately.

And if an upset ex shows up at my house at 4am, the police are definitely getting a call. Thankfully the last ex I had was 20+ years ago. No idea where they are now but I wouldn't go frequent bars or restaurants where I knew they might be.

Charges dropped. And Rusty finally dropped the tea I was waiting for. She used to work in his office.

That came out the other day on the evening newscast. They called in to see what the policy on people in the same office dating, and KBTX did not get a reply that day….

Dating his subordinates, another shockingly poor decision.

I wonder if one of us would get our charges dropped. And if our employers would be ok with us dating subordinates.

But there is TOTALLY NOT a good old boy network in Brazos County. At all.

She showed up at his house and hit him first. I think it would go the same for most of us.

Dating an employee is a policy violation but not a crime. Maybe that's why she quit. Who knows?

Maybe no one pressed any charges? Still it was not a good show for Brazos county, but something we all expected.

If they were both fighting and both arrested, then it would be in their best interest to drop it.

Some of you need to remember Occam's razor.

Appalled to see that a County Clerk with DUI dated as early as 1987 and after was elected to this position. I cannot understand how a person can still be eligible with such rap sheet. By the way, ex wife, ex girlfriend they also have DUI records. Birds of a feather flock together.

Because people are lazy and don't look at much more than an R or D by the candidate's name

Or

Not enough people show up to vote so small cliques of people vote and get their candidate in

Or

People vote for candidates based on age/gender/race/name (this is at all levels) and never really do any homework

George W. Bush had was arrested for DWI and (allegedly) cocaine when he was younger. People do change and grow up. Others don't. As mentioned above, voters a lot of times don't look close enough at the people and issues. On the other hand, sometimes they do look closely at the people and think they have changed and improved themselves enough to serve public office. Whether that's right or wrong is opinion.

Inelgibilty for public office is usually based on a felony conviction. Just having a rap sheet in general may be not be enough to make someone ineligible.

A dui almost 40 years ago and one year out of hs?? Come on!! People grow and change. Why should a mistake in his youth dictate the rest of his life?

Maybe change to the point you don't frequent restaurant/bar locations where your ex might also frequent and if said ex shows up at your house in the middle of the night maybe have locks on your doors that don't allow her access to your home?

This just doesn't sound like good decision making.

If we removed everyone from office with poor decision making in their personal life we would have very few officials. While I would laud a decrease in the number of elected offices, as we have them and they will be filled, maybe let's focus on their business decisions and grant at least some lenience for personal life.

Actually- if you read my post - my arguement is to base your vote on the business decisions. This isn't a city position and I don't live in a city so I'm not sure about your point. I am saying overall that while I prefer wisdom in life and business by my elected representatives, I have come to realize that many reasonable business leaders make horrible personal life choices.

Also, for those not familiar with Texas law, DUI in Texas is not the same as DUI in most states.

In Texas, DUI is specific to individuals under the age of 21, and entails driving with ANY detectable alcohol in one's system. It's a class C misdemeanor. (Though with a bunch of nasty second order penalties, like your insurance rates go way up.)

What most other states call DUI is called DWI in Texas. That's the 0.08 or above BAC,
mariloo

No. It is not "a DUI". He got AS EARLY as in 1987 followed by DWI in the 90's and 1 more in 2000's (the last one not involving driving but referring here to his alcohol problem resulting in domestic violence since they were both drunk, and YES ex gf also with DWI prior to last incident too).
This is not joke, driving drunk is a danger to everyone and it is not to be taken lightly under the false premises of "only one time thing". Statistically, DRUNK people get their DWI when they get caught which not necessarily the one-time they were drunk behind the wheels.

The city that buys dead department store sites or the city that provides tax benefits to businesses built on parkland?

You'll have to be more specific.

I was thinking malls. But your question is valid.

A lot of people use "DUI" and "DWI" interchangeably. In Texas, they are separate and distinct offenses as noted above. In other states, what Texas defines as Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) is defined as Driving Under the Influence (DUI). With media being what it is, the phrases are used interchangeably, and MOST people mean the Texas DWI, simply because they don't know there is a difference.

I don't think anyone is taking DWI as a joke. I took it as they are pointing out it was many, many years ago, and the decisions some make in their younger years are not the same decisions they would make when they are older. It doesn't mean it was a good decision back then.

I think the point was that a decision made when someone was young doesn't define them or their life. Even if a really bad decision.
