So I have an odd hobby, collecting cookbooks from houses of worship. My own family is all over the map (Catholic, Orthodox, Jewish), and I have cookbooks from them all. I think they all tell a story of sorts.

So if your house of worship has one of those old school spiral bound cookbooks with recipes from members, I'd love to know. I'll happily purchase a few. TIA.

I can't help you with more cookbooks, but I would love to get some recipes from an Orthodox cookbook. I am struggling with ideas for fasting days.

I wish you would have posted this a couple of years ago...I bet I threw out more than 50 as my MIL got them from every church within 20 miles of New London, TX. Some were from back in the 1930s or before. I may have a few more around you can have.

Are you looking for just the BCS area?

I collect Junior League Cookbooks and have found many at the Bryan Goodwill while passing over an equal number of religious organisation's products. Altho I did buy the very fine St. Anthony's Church Italian cookbook..and the Bryan Woman Club books dating back to the 1950's. Sometimes the obsession has to branch out!

No, but since I live here and there are a lot of different houses of worship, it seemed like a good place to start. And now I have a few leads to check out.

Everytime I open this forum I scan the topics and see this as "Local houses of worship with cookies" and get excited for half a second.

I might have a problem.

I'm pretty sure all those books have cookie recipes. My cousin in law's synagogue one has some great ones!

I just donated several of these cookbooks from different churches that I have collected over the years to the Central Baptist Church garage sale, which is upcoming.

I donated cookbooks from several churches in Austin County, including First Baptist Church of Bellville and the Nelsonville Brethren Church. There are others, as well. I'm drawing a blank on them, though.

If interested, stop by Central and check them out on the following dates/times:

August 2, 7:00am-4:00pm & August 3, 7:00am-12:00pm

I have a couple from the Newton Country Extension Homemakers that I could not give up because some of my granny's recipes are in them.
