Fish Corps question about shoes

My friend's son got accepted into the Corps and was issued size 10 shoes which are too small for his feet. When he asked for a bigger pair, the person he spoke with said "that's what we want you to wear". Does he have any other options?

I'm not sure who the "person he spoke with" was, but he should be able to trade his shoes in at the uniform check out place - it's in the breezeway by the old band hall right at the end of Dorm 11. It's probably where he got his stuff issued to begin with. Maybe he just needs to talk to someone else.

This is the first of many times in the future he will need to stand up for himself. He (not a parent or friend of a parent) can go to the Uniform Distribution Center and ask to exchange them for the appropriate size. Exchanges for incoming fish happen all the time so this is no big deal and really easy.

I say this a former CT - those folks in there that work are some of the nicest people in the university and on the quad. They want to see you succeed and be properly outfitted. He should not be adverse to going in and asking.

The alternative is if he doesn't switch shoes before FOW - he's gonna be in misery trying to march and all the fun learning with shoes to small. And he'll have to two bar a new set when he finally replaces them and that's just a lot of shoe shining…

If they don't fit, have him take them back. They will swap out on check in day if needed.

Remember, those are full grain leather. They should be snug because the WiLL stretch. They should NOT be painful.

I've heard stories of kids going in thinking they need a 12 because they wear oversized sneakers, but then end up with horrendous blisters because their shoes were too loose.

Has he worn them around a little to see if they'll break in?

Heck if know - I haven't been by that place in 10 years. I just remember she wouldn't give me my white belt package a day or two before final pass cause I showed up 10 minutes after the deadline after hauling ass from west campus to get there.
