So I just got my renewal on car insurance and the rate has gone up 41%.

Two years ago I check with three local agencies and all were higher than what I had at that time.

I think it's time shop it around again.

Anyone have experices with Progressive on cost and also on claims?

I started auto with progressive and home with homesite (thru progressive) back in 2022 when we moved. Rates have gone up 50% on home and 30% on auto since then. I've talked to Liere the last two renewals and they've even substantially higher for the same auto coverage. Their best available auto rate has been thru Progressive but it's much higher than what Progressive is quoting me directly. I left USAA because they were going to be much higher on home in 2022. There don't seem to be many deals right now.

I don't understand the insurance business but sure seems like there would be a market for responsible people who are willing to pay very high deductibles and/or want coverage for total loss type situations only. I will replace a roof or fix random things out of pocket. I've never filed with insurance for anything. But if my house burns down, I'd rather not pay for that and wish I could insure for that kind of thing. I bet the vast majority of their claims by dollar amount are smaller claims like a roof.

Progressive will give you a good deal on your initial rate. Then in 6 months they will jack it up

State Farm has decent rates right now, as does Texas Farm Bureau

This is my experience as well except even when they jacked it up, I can't find anything cheaper.

TX Farm Bureau and State Farm quoted between 100-250 lower per month than Progressive for us. (No tickets, 1 accident in past 5 years)

Good to know. Mine renews early August so I'll check it out. I wonder if they'll do the same thing and jack it up after 6 months.

Can't be as bad as my 41% increase this year with my insurance.

FWIW: I have had Geico for years. My monthly went up $47. I called them and threatened to leave. After a 12 minute conversation, my $150+ a month payment went to $37 a month for the exact same coverage.

I'm kind of jaded the the whole "squeaky wheel gets the grease" thing, but tbh calling and complaining occasionally actually works.

Good luck in any case…there's a lot of this going around right now.

Hopefully farm bureau is better this year vs the quotes last year. I had to go away from them they were so high. Home quote went up 50% vs the year prior. I plan on at least getting a quote in a month or so to see where they stand. I'm not holding my breath.

I won't waste my time with auto through them though. Insanely high.

We are paying about $250/month for 2 vehicles through TX Farm Bureau. It actually didn't go up on the renewal, which surprised me (just renewed).

Our home is through Germania, so I don't know what txfb is on that.

And just clarifying for some people because I know some people got confused when I talked to hem about this elsewhere. Farmers and TXFB are 2 different companies. Farmers has always quoted us insanely high.

Progressive online gave me a quote of $720/6 months for two vehicles same coverage as my $2,800/yr with Ag Workers.

I hate to leave Ag Workers as I have been with them for 49 years, but 2X the cost is going to be hard to swallow.

For you Progressive people, how much did they raise the premium after the six months?

That's disappointing. I have ag workers for auto as well and renewal soon. Looks like I'll be shopping around for that too

They not only went way up 41% but also require you to pay in only four installments of one at $724 and three at $714....i.e. words they want the money sooner so they can make more money off of your payments.

Also, no mention of any rebate.

Been with AgWorkers since 1975 and 2024 probably is the end. I am calling them Monday to see what's going on.

Yeah ours went up ~45% last August and was the first year with no dividend. I pay annually as it's the best rate. Still sucks how much it's gone up though.

What they sent me there was not discount for paying all upfront. I can make around $400 or more in investing the balance due to help keep the cost down.

With AgWorkers not insuring sports cars and convertibles you would think that their claims would be lower and the premium increases less than other companies?

I had a November 1979 SuperBeetle (last month and year they made them) and AgWorkers would not insured it. I used it about three to four days a month and a total of about 100 miles a month.

They charge $4-5 per quarterly payment vs just paying once if I remember right. Not much, but I'm not paying them more than I have to.

I thought they deny coverage if someone has too many claims as well to keep costs down. Unfortunate to hear they're no better than everyone else price wise these days.

They probably do drop people with too many claims. I have had two claims in 49 years.

Check out of the heartburn game. Listen to Nuno, Liucci, and everyone else at Texags. Call Rollo Insurance and let them do the legwork for you. They access the entire breadth of the modern feee market. Buying insurance from a captive company is rarely the best option.

No gamesmanship, objective consultation, and real relationships: Call Morgan, Jon, or Jade @ Rollo!!!

I tried Rollo last year and they were about 15% higher than what I had.

Indeed still the best rate I could find. Been with AgWorkers since the late 1980's and although we did miss out on the dividend for 2024 no one else could come close to the rate I pay for full coverage w $500 deductible. $1112/year

I left last year as well when they dropped the dividend and went up (not 45% but still went up.)
I ended up with Progressive with the snapshot. It has gone up some but nothing dramatic.

I pay for yearly, so I didn't get a 6 month bump. I did renew, it was less than a 10% increase after the first year. That still keeps me at about 50% of what my previous Farmer's renewal was.

Another Ag Workers renewal up 20% for the upcoming year after the 46% increase last year. Zero claims zero tickets.
