Are they going to take the extra gate at Easterwood?

Maybe? The CEO's son was just hired as a professor here.

Taught at Auburn previously, so a true SEC boy.

Need more options than one gate that only flies to DFW and is delayed >50% of the time

Southwest will not fly out Easterwood. The ridership simply is not there. They'd never fill up their planes.

Yes, they only fly 737's. Even if they had one flight out a day it's hard to believe they could fill enough seats to make it worth their while.

They just pulled any flights out of Bush due to losses, so I seriously doubt they're going to add flights here.

Silver Airlines in Florida bought many of the old Saab prop planes that Continental used to fly out of CLL, and they are making money flying between smaller airports in Florida to major hubs and to the Bahamas / Carribean. If we had a similar company here, I think they could hit the smaller airports like CLL, BMT, etc., and still make money. The regional jet companies wanted to push out the prop planes competition, promising more economical service. What it did was just quit going to a bunch of the smaller regional airports.

I'm to the point that I wish that the university would just shut down the airport, and use the land to accommodate for the ever growing student population. Main campus, west campus, and far west campus.

Southwest named 'Official Airline of the SEC' but don't expect flights at Easterwood Airport

Once again, a busy discussion on TexAgs quickly becomes a KBTX story.

They could at least add direct flights from Easterwood to our opponent's school airport for away games. I bet they'd have no problem selling those out.

Then where would all the gameday jets come to - they can't fly in to Coulter - runway too short - ramp too small -
Let's not forget the teams that have to fly in and out -
And TAMU has taken too much federal FAA money to drop the airport without having to pay it back.

There was a day when Easterwood was friendly to general aviation - hangers - a vibrant repair capability etc - very busy with smaller general aviation airplanes - I am not talking about corporate jets.
Not so much today - still ok to use as a touch and go - the tower is pretty friendly - but it is cost prohibitive to small aircraft to be stationed there - no hangers- not to mention the cost of avgas.
The current environment is such that anyone attempting to run a business in aviation has to pay a percentage of income to the governing body and there are just not the margins in general aviation to be able to support a new business.
If you think restaurants are dying - try finding an aviation mechanic.

They got 40% off flights to Hawaii right now with promo code HAWAII40. Just FYI.

This isn't a great take. There's a ton of GA traffic in and out of KCLL. A good number of those planes could not land at Coulter's 4k' runway. It's also a popular military training stop. Selfishly, I enjoy flying both GA and commercial out of there.

As for the "space" issue, land utilization is ridiculously inefficient within a mile of main campus. There are too many single-family properties in an area that should be high rises. Getting more students living closer to campus would alleviate some traffic congestion around town.

Must keep BMAs happy. You signed up for it when you moved here.

I think a direct flight to Denver from CLL would do well. Texans love to visit Colorado!

If we really want a bigger airport, then we either need major growth or to do one in a place like Calvert. Then close the Waco, Temple, and College Station airports (all 3 about 45 minutes away).

Of course none of this will happen.

Bring back Trans-Texas Airways!

Easterwood's (rwy 17/35) 7,000' runway length is very much a limiting factor for who/what will utilize the field regularly.

My understanding is that SWA doesn't fly to most of the SEC towns. This sponsorship is bizarre!

I think the only SEC towns SWA flies into is Nashville. That will change this season with the sips. If you consider Norman to be a suburb of OKC, then that would make 3.

When you consider the amount of land that is out there, the potential use, I don't see how general aviation and the military's fondness of the airport can even equate into the decision making process. Nor game day jet traffic. Those are all desires, not needs.

Eastgate and Southgate will likely be redeveloped into dense, high-rise student housing in years to come. It's only logical.

I've been told that's the plan with Texas A&M campus being the Central Park of town
