Question for those with YouTubeTV in BCS - is the CBS channel KBTX? The website doesn't specify, just want to make sure. If it is, does it appear to be standard dev like it is on DirecTV or is it high def like the Waco CBS (and all the other locals...)

Thanks

For the BCS market, YouTube TV carries 2 CBS affiliates - KBTX (Bryan) and KWTX (Waco). Both in HD.

Note that with YouTube TV, if/when you travel, you'll get the locals of your destination. So you wouldn't have KBTX if you were in Houston or DFW, for example. Using a VPN could simplify (or complicate) things.

Exactly the answer I was looking for. Thank you sir. Buh-bye DirecTV.

This is not true. You set up your base (BCS) and when you travel, it will ask you if you are traveling. I watched KBTX in Salt Lake City and did not get local channels there

Yes, KBTX is a choice while in the Brazos Valley.

Go somewhere, and Youtube is smart. You won't get KBTX.

Stay inside your house and don't leave!!

That's what they say in Houston this week.

Sometimes it bugs and doesn't realize you're traveling right away

We usually set KBTX to save the shows daily so when we travel, we just watch the recorded episodes.

Weird, I've always clicked "I'm traveling" and gotten the local stations from wherever I was (not KBTX).

Glad to know there's a way to do it, I've just got to figure it out. Thanks.

Hmm, for "What you can see while traveling domestically," YouTube TV's help says you get
Quote:

  • Local networks for the location you're visiting. Note: You can't record local programming outside of your home area.

Charpie, is it possible you were watching a recorded program from your library while in SLC? Or YTTV couldn't actually tell where you were, so it just defaulted to your "home" locals?

I'm not doubting your experience, it just hasn't been my experience, and isn't their stated policy. Google is chock full of search results saying with YTTV, you don't get your home locals when traveling.

Nope.

In fact, when I visit the boyfriend in West Texas, I login to his Apple TV and it still shows me KBTX, KAGS etc. After I saw this thread, I called him and he confirmed that even right now, he could turn on KBTX live

I was in Georgetown yesterday and demonstrated why I liked YouTube TV to my host on her TV and we watched KBTX - no problem.

This is as good of a place to complain as any. Why the hell is BCS not in the greater Houston TV market? I would love to get HTown local sports, but can't. But, if the Astros are playing on the MLB channel, I get a blackout message. Hell, I get Houston radio stations in my truck. I understand BCS is somewhat Central TX, but I don't need to watch Waco TV, local KBTX is essentially the same coverage. I definitely don't feel local sports coverage here should be the DFW market.

Because it is beneficial to both Waco-Temple-Killeen and BCS to have their own designated marketing area then be a part of Houston.

If we shared the DMA no ratings for the BCS would be so small they couldn't survive. If they split WACO and BCS they wouldn't have enough population to be in the top 100 markets

Wasn't BCS their own market at one point?

possible but not in the last 35 years

Radio is separate but TV has been combined as long as I remember.

And rip-off the BCS and Waco advertisers. I would never shop in Waco/Temple/Killeen and those people would never shop in BCS.

I will also confirm this. In DC now watching the RNC convention, and the two CBS options are the BCS and Waco channels. I'm normally in BCS.

Out of curiosity, is anyone who is getting KBTX while traveling using their phone to access YTTV while on the road?

I ask because Charpie mentioned Apple TV, and that her friend pulled KBTX up without her being there, so it isn't being accessed through her phone. Whereas my phone is the only way I access YTTV when traveling.

Perhaps phones are more locked down as far as locals because the YTTV app can get location data directly from the phone itself? Possibly some sticks or smart TVs have no provision for reporting location data, so they're a loophole?

Sorry for the multiple posts, but it's just an odd split of yes you can / no you can't experiences gets the troubleshooter in me fired up

I'm not a techie expert, but I went into the YTTV options some time ago and selected which channels we wanted to see, those we wanted hidden, and the order of presentation on the YTTV guide. I wonder if that "married" me to those local CBS channels that follow me even when I'm halfway across the country?

I don't know exactly what feature you're referring to, but I think so. I share my location with my wife. She knows I'm in DC. Gotta be careful where I go, lol. And my location also shows on Google Maps when I navigate around town.

Random You Tube TV question.

Does You Tube TV have an equivalent channel to INSP?

Had to look up INSP, but isn't available through YTTV or any of its add-ons as far as I can tell. Not sure what would be an suitable equivalent; there's nothing devoted to westerns that I get with the basic package.

Turner Classic Movies sometimes has westerns, and has a few of them for free on demand, but nothing like INSP's large catalog. TV Land will have old shows like Gunsmoke and Bonanza, but they aren't devoted to the genre.

The best bet looks like the "Starz Encore Western" movie channel, but you only get that if you pay $10/month extra for the Starz package.
