Been going on Thursdays for the bbq porkchop for many years.
Hate it for Alan. He is a good dude.

I think this is the personal arbitrary line that I draw between good and great BBQ. I enjoy Rudy's and C&J, but I'm generally going to get a sandwich at places like that. I'm not getting a sandwich from a high-level BBQ place (the exception being Stanley's in Tyler; if you know, you know).Bunk Moreland said:Quote:
some of the best bbq in Texas is found in humble gas stations…many of which have not been discovered yet by Texas Monthly and their ilk.
yeah, no. Unless you fall in the category of people who call chopped beef sandwiches "best bbq," then sure...
Same, pre- and post-move.ElephantRider said:
I was never impressed by Fargo's, even at the old location. Brisket is always dry.
BCS continues to be a black hole for good BBQ. 1776 is the closest thing we have

These days, bbq out, especially for a family, is too expensive to eat with much regularity.

Can you share what and where those gas stations are?
No. What's Tha Deal Bbq on Hwy 21 fits that bill and is very good.FlyRod said:
Was Fargos the only African-American run BBQ place here? I only ask because they seem to represent a distinct style, esp with respect to the sauce (some places in East Texas like that gospel place come to mind). Often it's also cooking techniques and particular items like rib tips.
better than okay. What's Tha Deal opened a new place on 21 out by Coulter a few months ago. I was never a big fan of Fargo's, What's Tha Deal is legit though.FlyRod said:
Seems like other BBQ places are doing ok (C&J's), and I've been noticing business dropping off at Fargo's for some time. Had heard anecdotes about the quality slipping since the last move. In reality, who knows. Maybe the local market is BBQ saturated too?
sorry, should've read this post yeah they started as a food trailer, had 2 at one point, now on to a restaurant! and they even have a bar with multiple TV's.woodiewood said:No. What's Tha Deal Bbq on Hwy 21 fits that bill and is very good.FlyRod said:

Mr. Alan did say that there would be another venture. Probably a food truck. After some much needed rest.
Not many folks would have sold out on Saturday and offered to cook on Sunday. That's when we picked up ours. Ate my last rib last night for dinner
