My friend is in need of a conference room or meeting space from 7/18-7/19 in either Bryan or College Station. It needs to be large enough to accommodate up to eight people. Please let me know if anyone has any recommendations.

Coopers BBQ in College Station has two great meeting rooms that I've used before.

Lots of locations around town. Wings and more meeting room, Maria Mias has a glassed in private area, Saltgrass has a room that can be closed off. Also there is a meeting room at Bank of America on the second level.

Lots of restaurants have rooms you can use or rent but typically for limited time so not good for day long meeting, typically two hours or less. Even the city facilities are a couple hours max. I think there are a couple shared office suites locally that rent their conference rooms if existing tenants have not booked. For things like two day conference we end up using hotel,
hilton. Best Western suites, Hampton. Some that have dining require you to use them for meals, but others have restaurants nearby and you can avoid catering.
Maybe something at expo center is possible

You are of course correct, and they are fine facilities, but they might be a bit overkill for "up to 8 people." I would say both would be more appropriate for groups of 20 or more.
