A/C isn't broken or anything… Just needs a good check up.

I've used Clear Creek Heat and Air (https://www.clearcreekheatandair.com/) since my agent recommended them to resolve HVAC issues in a house I bought. Used them for service and repairs for my primary + rental property since then and always been happy.

Another vote for BCS Air Solutions, they came and and identified a coolant leak in my system just this week. Quick to set the appointment, service was fast, and price reasonable.

The HVAC business is changing. Unfortunately many recommendations may be tied to long time local companies that have been acquired and that experience my not reflect the operations today now that Private Equity investors and Regional Equipment suppliers own them. But their strategy is to retain the long respected name of the local company and inject their efficiencies into these operations.
Several of the names in this thread that have people recommendations and others suggesting they may not be so good are ones that been assimilated by these holding companies.
Find a local company where issues can be handled face to face with the owners and your experience will be far better. Don't want to call names but know who you are dealing with today.

Are most of the ones on tv part of owners outside of here/investors/private Equity groups etc?

I know Clear Creek is a local Brazos Valley company.

I'm pretty sure Marco with Aire Cool is as well (used him years ago)

Malek I think is local.

ABC is a big company don't know if the ownership here is local

Same experience. Used him for years but then he made appointments, didn't show up so I would call. Always had an excuse and was running late.
Switched to Tru Service AC and was happy.

There is no one "go to." In a climate like this, there are many companies and customer experiences vary widely. In 15 years of home ownership, I've used Barker's, Siegert's, and now Aire Serve. I personally like the latter two. Only switched from Siegert's to Aire Serve after Aire Serve rescued us after hours one time. Both are good though, as are many others I'm sure.

If nothing is wrong, don't call anyone out. If you call someone, it is a foot in the door to upsell you on a new service or equipment.

Also, if someone starts tinkering around with connections on an older system you will have issues. I had two or three of the major companies come out for a bad air handler. Each "tech" made the issue worse.

There are basic things you can do such as clean the coils, check insulation, etc.

Save your money for a new unit.

I guess those people that live local but have an owner in a different town don't deserve work.

I do hate the upsale attempts, but AC is too important in Texas. I have a tech out twice a year to check things and hopefully avoid a major breakdown.

We'd be happy to have the opportunity to work with you. We are local and honest. Like every other decent AC company in town we are pretty busy with break down calls but we will still schedule a check up call this time of year with a caveat that we may reschedule if we cannot keep up with break downs.

There are some other companies listed here that are good. Some that are really bad.

I heard the other day that Malek has sold out, I really don't know if that's the case. I do know Mullinix is owned by AirPro out of Houston and Barkers/Climate Dr are owned by Southern Air from Louisiana that is owned/funded by a private equity firm out of Florida. Nothing wrong with using companies owned by investors or out of town people so long as you adjust your expectations for the type of service you're going to get.

I prefer to spend my money with people I can talk to and that I might run into at HEB. There's something about that old school feeling that comes with a "mom and pop" company where the owners genuinely care about the product they deliver.

Had them come out last year, they did a great job. Very thorough and explained what they were doing and why it was needed before we made any decisions.

Thanks for the reply maroon, I didn't think it was an inappropriate statement to make in the context of the thread. Additionally, I do not consider Malek to be a competitor of mine either. Our companies operate in the same field of service but on polar opposite sides of the spectrum. They are Goliath and I am David.

(Also, I'm a little hurt that I don't qualify as a message board genius to you. ;-) )

I agree. Just used him to fix my daughter's a/c and he was great! Great communication, came out same day, very fair pricing. Really appreciate the info here to know who to call.
