Howdy everyone,

My wife and I just got a house in south CS and are finally escaping from Dallas. Both of us are Ags, and we love the area dearly, but what are some non-college kid oriented spots we should check out?

I really enjoy shooting and used to be a frequent visitor to the Gun Corps range - I know they're a thing of the past, do we have any range recs here other than Champion?

We are both WFH, so are there any cool bars with good food we can work from during the day that have outlets?

CCC down by Millican is the best range in the area.

Angry Elephant is a good bar down south. Happy hour at the Republic is not bad either.

I quit shooting at ranges (built a spot on our property to shoot rifles and pistols). CCC is good for long distance. Champions still has their indoor range.

There are a few axe throwing places and Big Shots.

Enjoy the bar at Republic and Primrose Path. Downtown uncorked is a good wine bar. If you head to Downtown Bryan, it's usually not congested with college kids and has great restaurants and bars. Angry Elephant is good, as others have said. Also Tilted Pint

I WFH, but never take my stuff with me anywhere due to having young kids , so I'm no help on the finding a place to work with outlets.

Arrowhead range halfway to Hearne works for me. It's pretty run down but has a couple of pistol bays and a rifle range. You definitely need to bring your own targets, cardboard backing, and some zip ties. The setup is basically t-posts hammered into the ground. Hit me up and I'll send you a hand-drawn map. wwynn97@gmail.com

I forgot! There is a range around Kurten- Brushwood Creek. It's members only, but the fee was minimal and we enjoyed it for distance. Haven't been in a year or so. Flooding may have impacted it recently though, as I remember some issues on the road in far drier conditions than we currently have.c

That range used to be called The Marskman, it's now called Brushwood Creek Sporting Club.

They've got a pistol bay, steel target bay, 50 and 100 yard rifle lines. I haven't been out there in a while (been working weekends the last 6 months), but their road was okay last time I was there.

Live oak archery is cool if you are into that sort of thing.

Savage Outdoor is great. The owner gets a +1 because he is taking over the organization of the Kurten Fireworks show.

Back to Savage - it's the old Bryan Police range. What I like about it is it is by appt only, but when you book your time slot, you get the whole range to yourselves. So you & the Mrs. could have a nice date night or ya'll could invite a few friends. Either way, the range would be yours. His rates are very reasonable as well.

Marfa is awesome for dinner. Unfortunately seems like SCS is really dragging behind in the stuff to do part

Downtown Bryan brings in a plethora of classic rock and metal tribute bands.

There is an Uncorked wine bar in the same area as Marfa Texas Kitchen.

Yes. That is Downtown Uncorked. She didn't change the name when she moved from bryan to CS

Plus, there is no downtown in CS, so they could just put it anywhere.

I always thought CS needed an "uptown", but they chose Midtown for maximum confusion.

Midway between 6 and Rock Prairie East.

Nobody has said it yet, but downtown Navasota has become Northgate for adults. Some good restaurants, good bars, neat old hotel, and shopping.

Seriously Navasota has done a bang-up job on their town square.

With our growth rate, Midtown CS will be midtown CS at least north/south.

Check out the Yankee Tavern in. Carlos. Maybe a 10 minute drive from SCS. Cold beer and good food. Big thumbs up to the chicken fried steak.

The ginormous chunk of land between Midtown Dr and Rock Prairie, with the huge "Midtown" sign.

https://www.midtowncitycenter.com/

Not to be confused with midtown in Bryan which is where the old Bryan muni golf course was.

And both areas started developing around the same time.

I almost feel like CoCS conned some developers by saying they would be in midtown- with them thinking the big midtown area in Bryan, and then surprising them with open fields with nothing around.

Did this 2 years ago, along with a few other couples we knew. We really enjoy all the things that Aggleland provides natively, i.e. all the sports and MSC OPAS will keep you busy for a fraction of the cost of Dallas area activities... We are season ticket holders/club members for Football, Baseball, Basketball, Soccer , Volleyball, Tennis, Track and Field, and and supplement with a handful of Softball and Women's BB.

There is First Friday in downtown Bryan every, well you should get when that happens.
Concerts in downtown Bryan, Wolf Pen, and on occasion Reed and now Kyle Field.

Great local restaurants all over the place.
Marfa's Texas Kitchen (Upscale comfort - CFS is great)
1860 (Italian)
Poche's (Cajun)
Le Petite Cochon (French)
Frida's Kitchen and Bar (Mexican)
Rx (Pizza)
Gate 12

Breakfast/Brunch
Stella Southern Cafe

Burgers
Top of the Hill (Benchley - Near OSR/Hwy 6 or just past Lake Bryan)

Several spots for drinks in/around downtown Bryan and College Station
Blackwater Draw Brewing Company
Hush and Whisper Distillery
I agree with all the other places already mentioned, i.e. Uncorked, Tilted Pint, Angry Elephant, etc...

Finally, I am sure there is another reason you left DFW area, so you can just chill at home and relax.

Only thing we miss is our life long friends and they come to visit all the time and we go back every 6 weeks to hang out for a weekend.

City of College Station intramurals. If you need a team, sign up through the Brazos County A&M Club. Softball, kickball, volleyball.

Add Tilted Pint to the list! Sat out on the patio and drank 2.75 beer on draft. Our tab was super cheap for both food and drinks and it was crowded for a Tuesday night!
