They just don't know about the chicken finger places, medians, City Council, property taxes, and paying for parking at Century Square! We might be in last place if they did.

In 2023, the Lone Star state led the nation by population growth, accounting for 30 percent of new residents overall. According to a new report by GoBankingRates.com, 10 of the top 30 safest and most affordable places for families to live in the U.S. are in Texas, including the winner, College Station.

That is great Bob but what is GoBanksRates and why are they rating cities?

It's a personal finance firm, publicly traded on the Nasdaq. They create finance related content in syndication with major news outlets. Travel & Leisure magazine being one of them, who published this story. They rank communities based on multiple categories of performance. I thought it was pretty cool. A little good news headed into the weekend, is all.

Have a good one!

It's pretty damn affordable vs the bigger cities. The large student population forces prices to trend down.

Four border towns make the Top 30 list in a "safest" category?

They showed us the property crime rate. Now show the violent crime rate.

CS is ranked #1. Yay for us!

Wait-What? El Paso is ranked #2 nationally????? That must be some interesting ranking criteria they have.

Looks like CS scores very well for having affordable housing. Maybe COCS doesn't neet that affordable housing committee after all Bob.............YMMV

Oh this is great. Get ready for a new rush of folks moving here, and the end of available/affordable housing, and hoo boy howdy if we think our traffic issues are fun now…

No I have serious concerns about housing affordability and this story, while pretty cool, doesn't mitigate those concerns. And I had to look YMMV up. :-)

I used to live on the border. It's fine and fairly safe on the US side.

Paging Charpie, who has posted a differing opinion on another board in the past.

Can't speak to El Paso or California, but have parents in RGV and while they do say the other side of the border has definitely gotten worse, they don't really have any problems on their end.
