Haddock tastes better (less flakey). You will find Haddock (along side Cod) served in many English Fish and Chips shops. A few fired Haddocks and mushy peas now that is a treat.

They didn't ask about haddock though.

I'd be genuinely surprised if fried cod exists in BCS at all. Fried catfish and tilapia dominate, and something called "Alaska pollock" At the fast food places.

Billy's menu says cod and it certainly tastes like cod

I better check it out. Grew up in Maine so I'm pretty familiar with that fish (at least until we nearly wiped it out).

It's definitely not catfish or tilapia. I doubt their Irish chef would serve that as fish and chips.

Poche's Seafood has Salmon and Grouper that could be grilled or fried. You could get it and have it delivered?

Poche's, if haven't been there, is very, very good. Jumbo is exceptional.

I will again confess surprise (happy surprise) that cod is on menus here. The Atlantic stocks were pretty much wiped out and only recently is there a limited harvest (yes you can find it at HEB). Pacific cod I think is still pretty abundant so maybe that's in use.

But with fish, caveat emptor; much of what is labeled as X in the store is really Y, and this is likely true in restaurants too.

Chef Tai and I have had lots of fun convos about this.

Need a real seafood place that isn't Cajun or fast food. My personal fave in town is at Mo's.

Cod is better than haddock. Plenty of places serve haddock or pollock and call it cod.

Over 90% of fish and chips in England using spiny dogfish. It's a small shark.

That gives me hope. Cod taste like dog (food) IMO. Just bland. I truly thought this was a joke by OP at first. Just about every time I have fish and chips with cod it's a mistake. They both sound like a great idea, then… cod. Literally my least favorite fish.

To each their own though.
