One of the friendliest people you could meet.

He would talk cooking with anyone that would listen at the old gas station.

My husband and his friend have been going to the Hwy 30 location nearly every Friday for over 20 years. I used to go time to time with them a long time ago, and then much less frequently. I agree he was a great person and he will be missed. Chip always stopped to talk to them if he was there.

Having a rowdy BBQ cookoff with Randy Sims upstairs. R.I.P. to a real one.

The debate for best BBQ makes for good fodder on this forum; however, the measuring stick for character can't be measured by taste buds. Chip Manning was a great human, never met a stranger, and was always quick with a joke. The man is a legend in B/CS and his legacy remains alive through his wife and kids.

I would be surprised if Chip knew my name, but he was friends with my Dad and Dad-in-law. Most times we went to the Harvey Road location he would sit and visit with us. The last time was about a year ago and he visited with us the entire hour we were there. What restaurant owner does that? None that I know of, outside of Chip Manning.

That was my "relationship" with him.

He wouldn't know my name, but he remembered conversations.

Good man.

No job was too small for Chip. I caught him busing tables at the new C&J location, just after it opened. I ask him why he was cleaning tables he said "That's how I meet new people".

RIP Chip...

I worked at the Bend in Bryan location in the summer of 2004 before I got married. He and his wife were gracious to all of the employees.

Wow. This hit me like a ton of bricks. My Dad passed away from a very aggressive cancer in May of 2023 and, during his last week, we needed help getting arrangement made for food, visitors, etc. It was very hectic. C&J's stepped in and delivered food for us. I'll never forget the kindness of their staff on Harvey/Highway 30.

Prayers for the family and may he rest in peace. Here.

Last time I talked to him, he was bussing tables at the Harvey Road location. He jokingly told me it was the only job he was qualified to do. Such a nice guy!
