1775 is the best, Cooper's the most convenient while also being quality.

C&J's continues to get better every time I eat it

1775 BBQ. Everywhere else is pretty average in my opinion.
The downside is that you have to drive to the river to get it. You can only get it on Thurs- Sat and then only from 11 pm-4 pm. You can eat outside in 100-degree weather or take it with you. It may be the best tasting but not really convenient.
Yep, and then you go out on the Saturday hours and a sign said they are closed to do a catering job.

I understand the need to do catering, but no telling how many customers have quit trying due to this. I for one won't waste my time driving out there.

CJ swpky was almost a weekly stop for me. I had not been in a while recently. Very disappointed with my last order. Brisket was very salty, the jap cheese sausage tasted different, more greasy than in the past, dont know if they changed supplier and the bread and butter pickles did not have the same flavor...much flatter flavor.

BCS has 3 BBQ places better than anything in San Antonio. Y'all are spoiled.
Bro. What. This is absolutely false. The BBQ scene in San Antonio has taken off. They've got some of the best barbecue in the state now.

I take it, you've not looked beyond Bill Millers or Rudys. Check out 2M, Pinkertons, or Reese Bros.

I liked Reese Brothers. Have not had Pinkerton's yet.
2M I was so-so on

Just coming to brag on C&J's Harvey location. Their ribs today were fantastic. I go there frequently and get brisket and JC sausage. Every now and then, I'll try the ribs and end up disappointed. They looked especially good today. And they were. A little sweeter than I like, but the flavor was still really good, and they were cooked perfectly.

So my current ranking is below:

1. 1775 - simply fantastic.

2. C&J's - consistently good barbecue. No, it's not on par with the top 50 "craft" barbecue joints, but it's great for a place with multiple locations putting out a high volume. Their fried okra and ranch potatoes are my favorite side pairing at any local place.

3. Cooper's - better than C&J's on a good day, but they seem to have a little inconsistency. Maybe I'm just hitting them at bad times, but sometimes the meat tastes like it's been sitting a while and is sometimes overly salty.

I have not been to Fargo's, ATKM (is it even still there?), Blue Moon, or any of the others in a few years so won't rank them.

I love BBQ. Even when it's bad or average. Here are the places I like around BCS

1. Snows - This is one of my all time favorites, when I"m in town drive to Lexington on Saturday if I have the time
2. 1775
3. Cooper's
4. Fargo's
5. Rudy's - often hated, but solidly average
6. J Cody's Steaks and BBQ

...

Not a fan of C & J, tried it twice and would rather eat at Dicky's or Arby's

Anyone that says C&J,.Fargos or Coopers should just drive to SA and get some Bill Miller's... The only answer is Brad and Brandon at 1775.

Interesting article that I need to find the link to in Texas Monthly about the death of Texas BBQ

Just went to C&J's tonight! They're my favorite and their sides are awesome! I had the loaded mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and green beans! Best in BCS and for the price!

Went to 1775 today and not overly impressed. Plus very pricey imo.

Huh. That's one of the first not overwhelmingly positive things I've heard said about them. What'd you get?

I got the 5 meat sampler. Brisket was dry and ribs were tuff. Turkey and sausage were the best two.

Impossible. I have been told you can't get any BBQ that is worth damn unless it comes from this place and that I might as well bypass a 30+ year local establishment and drive to San Antonio...
