FF is finally coming to our neighborhood. The flyer offers two options: 1 Gig internet for $70, 500 internet for $50.

Not a gamer. Just a typical internet use, empty-nest household that will want to include a TV package as we get rid of cable. Do I need to spend the extra money on the 1 gig option?

we have the 500 for 50 and it works great for us

we do streaming, no cable/dish, kids with homework that need internet and I work from home, no gamers or major downloading

How many people will be streaming video at the same time? Or I guess a better way to word it is how many simultaneous video streams will you need. Could be one person but if you're trying to watch four games at once on different TVs or something.

The 500 is probably fine, but if you're trying to watch a bunch of things at the same time I'd spring for the higher one. (We have the gig)

Especially now that optimum also has fiber, no reason not to see which one has the best deal. Though optimum's deal would have to be WAY better for me to switch back.

What are y'all paying for 1g after your 12 months. Mine is coming up. Just moved my son into college so our bandwidth requirements have gone down a bit. Considering switching to 500

You may consider the gig just to get the 3 year price lock in.

Curious about this as well.

Have frontier 1 gig.

Wired is ~900-940 mbps

Wireless runs400-600 mbps

If multiple users are streaming or gaming it drops to 200-300 mbps

For reference: most homes use between 6-25mbps at any given time. A 4k stream is 25mbps.

Anything more than 100mbps will "feel" the same IF the upstream capacity is there.

I know people will argue with me on this but we have tested this extensively.

How? No good answer. Newer networks are generally better than old because they were installed with top-of-the-line equipment and capacity.

Not to say that older networks can't be good. Generally ISPs don't upgrade until things start to bog down.

We have alerts set that when our links get to 70%, we know so we can plan upgrades. I cant say that other companies work the same way.

Thanks. I've got CEO and trying to decide if I can go from 200 to 100. A couple neighbors have the 50 one and say they don't have issues. All I do is stream TV and music, and a rare zoom meeting.

I've had it for 6 years at my current house. I really don't remember any outages. Service is fine.

That said, my bill has almost doubled over the last few years. I pay about $120/mo for 1gig service.

What is better to use….Extender or Mesh Router?

Never extender and wired between nodes on mesh if at all possible.

Mesh, and I'd just buy another mesh unit to avoid the extender.

Our Frontier Fiber came with an eero. I added 2 more around the house to get the full mesh effect.

How can you determine who provides fiber in a particular neighborhood? I searched a potential address on Frontier's site and it says it isn't available. Is there a way to see if there are other options? I am looking at a house in the College HIlls area.

Frontier and Metronet are your only options currently. Check the Metronet website. Optimum is slowly rolling out fiber as well.

How long did your Frontier install process take?
Our guy arrived at 8:40am. Line was laid and buried yesterday. Took awhile to do the outside setup. It's been 5.5 hours since starting and he cannot get the equipment connected.

I think CEO 100 has data limits, while the 200 does not so you might want to watch that.

My install for frontier was a couple of hours. One connection outside. Then used our coax to connect to a central room in our house

Its arrive now and my 100 has no limit

Has anyone done a speedtest yet?

I have fiber and it is almost like ordinary internet from the mid 2000's.
