I am in need of a new one. My old one has burned through the bottom. I used to buy them at HEB but apparently they don't carry them anymore. Maybe they are not high end enough for the SOCO crowd these days and I get that, but I have been cooking and smoking meats on that type of smoker for the last 20 years. I know how to cook on that type of smoker so I am hoping I can find one here in town or relatively close.

I would also check the big box stores because they'll start to close out their summer smokers and grills.

(And btw, we prefer the term So-Cost)

(jk, I don't know what people prefer but SOCO seems incomplete and dewshy)

There's a BBQ store in Hempstead at Hwy 6 & 290 next door to Steinhauser's. I haven't shopped there yet.

I dont think these suggestions are what the OP is looking for. He's looking for a simple barrel grill. HEB used to sell them for around $100. We had one and they wear out fast.

I do know a welder, Maybe I'll just knock out the rusted bottom and have him weld on a new one.

Academy or Walmart would be where I would look first for the best price.

Yep, My FIL would do that every few years and used a barrel cooker for about 45 years.

This is the grill:

Looks like the company that made them went out of business.

I have the smaller version of this grill and it is actually pretty good for the price.

Baylor Backyard in Navasota has barrel smokers both finished and diy friendly versions that aren't put together or painted. They have a whole store committed to outdoor kitchen components as well as seasonings, sauces, charcoal, etc. These are very good people that I have done business with for years in their lumber store.

I am actually starting to think this might be my fave option, especially since you have seem to have done it and it worked. I just hate to give up on this smoker because it is just so well seasoned and just cooks so good, like your favorite trusty cast iron skillet.
