I just received my new policy for the next calendar year and the cost has gone up...way up.

Anyone have any suggestions as to good car insurance to get?

Anyone have any experiences with AAA car insurance?

I have always had a 12 month policy. Have 3 vehicles currently insured for 12 months.

I have had Ag Workers Mutual since 1989 and feel confident their premium cannot be beat. A majority of my friends and family that I have told about Ag Workers now have them for the auto insurer. My premium for my current 12 month policy is for full coverage and cost me $739.40 to insure my 2020 Mazda CX-5 w a $500 deductible. This year they refunded me (dividend) 17% of last years premium. While the dividend is not always guaranteed, I have received one of 11% or more every year for the past 33 years (your 1st year with them you do not receive a dividend).

The only caveat, you are only eligible for their auto insurance if:
-You hold a degree in Agriculture, Natural Resources, Veterinary Medicine, Life Science, or Family Consumer Science.
-You are working within an industry, association, organization, or state/federal agency with an emphasis in agricultural production, manufacturing, distribution, marketing, sales, transportation, or education.
-You have an agricultural valuation on your property or a loan with an agricultural lending institution.

Progressive, Liberty Mutual, State Farm, Farmers.

I've had several companies through the years. They've been 12 month contracts.

As suggested above, contact Liere, or Rollo, or Goosehead.

Good luck!

I got to thinking, I had SF 20+ years ago, and it was a 6 month policy. Everything since then has been 12 months

We used to have State farm for Auto up until 15 years ago or so.

We switched because, for no reason they raised their premiums so unbelievably high. Good driving record, no accidents, no tickets but still they raised the premium. So we switched to Geico for about half the price of State Farm for Auto and Home Owners. We've been pleased with Geico so far. They have competitive rates and good customer service. Good luck and I hope this helps.

No dividend this coming year and the policy seemed high for what I have. Worked with 3 other agencies. One couldn't beat their price and the other two found policies with the same coverage for less. One could only get me a 6 month policy, the other a 12 month with the same company for about the same monthly price. (I prefer to lock in for a year.) I will never understand insurance.

Hated to leave Ag Workers but saving $400/year for just one driver (one car, one truck) is worth it to me.

Seriously? Mine has gone up 10% each renewal with State Farm. No claims, no tickets. I price shopped and every other agency was half the price of State Farm. Went with AllState.

Decided insurance has become like cable companies. New customers get the cheap price.

yes.

Liability Coverage;
Bodily injury - $50k/person, $100k/accident = $130
Property damage - 50k/accident = $134
Uninsured/underinsured:
Bodily injury - $30k/person, $60/accident =$29
Property damage - $25k/accident =$26
Coverage for damage to your auto:
Other than collision - $500/deductible = $264
Collision - $500/deductible =$289
TOTAL $872 MINUS DIVIDEND $132.60 = 739.40

No more dividend. I just got the email. Looks like I'll be going elsewhere now as the wording of the email implies big rate increases. We shall see when I get the renewal notice

It's been an annual policy since 1973.
Unless something has changed, it's only an annual policy in the fact it's reviewed for premium changes annually. But it's billed every months.

Have obtained a couple of quotes in my car insurance. Both were a couple of hundred lower than my current insurance quote for next year. The problem is that both are six month policies subject to change every six months especially if me or my wife get tickets or claims.

I have been with Ag workers for 48 years have had a number of tickets through the years and five claims and they never raised my insurance due to tickets or claims other than during the new rates for the next year.

I am apprehensive to go to a six month policy and have the dang rate jump sky high if we have a couple of tickets or a claim.

What the thoughts here?

the tough part about auto insurance is coverage, everyone has different needs in my case I have to have high limits to protect assets in case an accident does ever happen. I also have a million-dollar umbrella on top of this coverage.

liability bodily injury 250K / 500K 87.00
property damage 100K 74.00
1000 ded comprehensive 45.00
2000 ded collision 65.00
uninsured /underinsured moterist bodily 250K / 500K property 100K 77.00 /40.00

so about 398.00 for six months with much higher coverage

I agree with you.

I shopped with three different insurance agencies in town when Ag workers dropped their dividend and the price was seemed high for 2 cars, 1 driver. All agencies are ones that have access to multiple insurance companies they can get coverage from.

One only had 6 month policies and said that is how the insurance companies do it now.

The second agency got me a 12 month policy with the same company as the one that the other agent said they could only get a 6 month policy. Price was just about the same (might have been a couple dollars more over all on the one year policy) . I would pay a couple extra dollars to have a 12 month policy vs 6 month so I don't have to reshop more than once a year.

The 3rd agency said they couldn't beat my Ag Workers mutual price. All the same coverage amounts.

Just recently got in the first fender bender of my life. It was relatively minor. Didn't cost them anything on my end because I didn't need to do any repairs. They paid $1000 to the other guy,
Anyway, just got my renewal and the yearly rate went up $900. Is that much of a jump for something that minor normal?

My experience is it's typically around 10% increase for first accident.

I probably will stay with Ag Workers and pay the smaller higher amount every month that I was quoted by the other companies. Been with them for 48 years and I am a creature of habit. Also, I have had a number of claims and never had an issue working the claim.

Maybe they will go back to rebating 20 to 25% next year?

src94
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think their 'rebate' is a dividend, and depends on the number/amount of claims they have to cover the prior year.

With all the crazy weather and hailstorms it might be a few years before the dividend comes back. But for me it was a $500/year difference to switch, if we were talking $50 for the year then probably would have stayed.

My insurance went up over 50% at renewal. Agent told me yesterday they had an average of 59% across the board. I asked her to price with one of her other carriers and am shopping elsewhere.

For those with Ag Workers, I've heard they have great rates but they're slow to pay. What has been your experience when you make a claim?
