Looking for local wine maker

Mustang grapes are out of control this year. Wife almost filled a five gallon bucket in 30 minutes today and barely made a dent in what's growing in our back yard. Will probably fill another couple five gallon buckets tomorrow. She will make jam with one bucket, but we'd like to turn the rest into wine.

I don't have the time or resources to make that happen, so looking for someone local that I can give the grapes to, split the cost of supplies and bottles, and then split the end product.

They don't process fresh fruit, as far as I know. They use (or at least used to use) juice and concentrate. So they may not have a crasher/destemmer.

Looking like it's all going to be turned in jam.

You can call the folks at Threshold south of Navasota. Good people who make good wine. I don't know that Mustang wine is something they'd be interested in, but it's worth the call.

I will trade you three bottles of my aged and ready to drink Mustang grape wine for six gallons of de-stemmed grapes.

You might try Lone Hen Winery on Hope's Creek Road. Google says they are closed, but their vineyard is still active. May have to drive out and knock on their door.

I guess the OP moved on but the same offer goes to anyone else. I just don't have time to pick grapes this year.

Sorry. Crazy busy the last three days.

I'm interested in the trade idea, but was really hoping to get some wine made from the grapes that grow in our back yard. Makes it a little more personal.

Edit to add: I have no idea how many gallons of grapes it takes to make a fixed amount of wine, but our vines have produced more grapes than we are physically able to pick in this heat this year. If there is a minimum quantity that is needed to make it worth it, please let me know and I can see what we can do.

For my wine, it works out to about 1 gallon of de-stemmed grapes to 1 gallon of finished wine. I just can't commit to a final product because I don't know when I will get around to my next batch. I freeze the grapes and use them when I have time.

You can Google Jack Keller's mustang grape wine recipes if you want to try yourself. It's really not too complicated but it is a huge mess for several days once the fermentation starts. It can make a small room look like a horrible crime scene until the fermentation settles down.

There is a place on Harvey Mitchell just west of Tractor Supply that has wine making supplies.

Go to Brew Supply Haus on 2818 and talk to the people there. They sell wine making products.

They've moved to Welsh near Southwest parkway.

Year old thread bump…

We ended up making jam last year, but this year we really would like to try the wine approach. Does your offer still stand? If so, are your bottles gallon size, so it would be a 50% return on the grapes? We would definitely want to take you up on the offer if it still stands.

I will happily purchase Mustang grape wine if someone wants to sell. I kind of neglected my own backyard vines and the critters got them.
