Want to arrive at IAH around 9:30 am on a weekday morning. Waze says 1 h 40 min, but I'm skeptical that this includes traffic...

If it's me, I'm allowing 2:15 for this trip at that time and if I'm early, I'm early.

But first tell us your route.

Are you going 105 from Navasota to 45 or are you taking 6/290/Sam Houston Tollway?

Thanks! I am open to recommendations on route. I'm not crazy about two lane/undivided highways if I can avoid them. Don't mind tolls.

Leaving from south CS.

Just take 6 to 290 to Sam Houston Tollway north

So I highly recommend taking the new toll road in the Plantersville area. Without traffic we made it home from the airport in like 70-75 minutes. It was nuts (we did speed)

With that said, I'm sure you will hit some traffic, but hopefully not terrible on the toll road. I agree with the above assessment, 2 hr 15 min to 2 hr 30 minutes should be more than plenty.

6 to 105 to 249 to 8. Exit jfk. Usually takes my 1:15 to 1:25 on weekday mornings about that time. Never hurts to be early though.

Agreed here. I've timed it from my door in South CS and it's about 1:15 minutes to get to the parking garage at IAH.

I take 105 thru Magnolia and down 249 toll road into Beltway 8.

Honestly, can't go wrong with either 290 down to beltway 8 or the other way. Both will get you there in about 10 minutes difference.

1:40, but plan at least 30 mins for security. we flew out on a 10 AM from the United terminal last week and the security line felt like it took longer than the drive. it was stupid packed.

This is the way; travel this road weekly. With Precheck you should be able to be through 1 hr 45 min from the time you leave your house. You won't "feel" traffic until you are 2-3 miles from BW8 but it's a crap shoot after that.

This, although the tolls are steep ~$13 one way... It is worth it.

If you want to avoid security lines, enter through terminal B. You can check bags and there is rarely ever a line. After security, get on the train to whatever terminal you're flying out of. I do this every time and it seems like it saves some time, but more importantly, it means I don't have to stand in a 30 minute security line at terminal C.

The 249 route can become a time problem if you get behind just one slow vehicle.

It's only two lanes from Navasota unti FM 1774.

There are random passing lanes, but most drivers don't seem to understand moving to the right in those. They just block the left lane.

Left lane for passing only.

Five simply English words that when combined, form the most complex sentence in the English language that to understand, you need a degree from A&M or Harvard to truly grasp.

Yep 70 min from my house to airport parking by way of the Aggie Expressway is awesome. Making that drive in the morning.

Great advice. Also, make a reservation for parking. If you want to park in the terminal A/B garage, it's best to make a reservation as that garage gets full.

Be prepared for some *******s on the roads, especially if you take 249 and then Beltway 8 east. That lane to merge onto 8 backs up at the exit to Beltway 8 going west, sometimes sooner. What happens is people race to the front of the line and cut in. That is the only problematic part of the drive.
