I didn't know there were sites/servers for Kik and MEGA, whatever those are, and I'm glad.

If convicted, I doubt a local judge will be lenient.

He should also consider himself soon to be divorced and estranged from all family and friends.

If you're arrested by the FBI, isn't that a federal case and in the federal court system? So, no local judge?

Thanks. So, will his appearance today in Galveston be an arraignment?

Yes. Arrest by Federal law enforcement for violations of federal law means trial in federal court, and, if convicted, time served in federal prison.

Since federal judges have lifetime appointments, the nature of the judge could vary greatly, depending on who appointed them.

I'm guessing that MEGA is the evolution of the old MegaUpload of Kim Dotcom fame? That place was a haven for pirated material back in the day.

I bet he doesn't go to trial, his lawyer will convince him to plea for a lesser sentence. Federal prosecutors don't get to this stage without an almost guarantee of a conviction based on evidence.

Yes. It's a file sharing site, though they're pretty quick to take down any content that violates their guidelines and is reported.

Take this scumbag straight to jail and throw away the key.
