Ok...made the decision to go to Frontier. I actually live in a house right now for the first time in 15 years in the B/CS area where Suddenlink(optimum) has actually been consistently good. However, they don't really get close to the 1 gig they say I'm buying.

I pay $79/month for them and will get $59/month for 3 years with Frontier, + the dedicated line to my house that should ensure my speeds stay faster more consistently. For those who have already made the switch...how has Frontier been from a speed, consistency, stability level?

Hope I made the right call.

Thanks.

No problems so far. Had for 2-3 months now. Just make your speed expectations are reasonable. You're not going to get 1gig on a wifi connection. And if you have a mesh network it will be slower. I have the eero mesh that Frontier gave me and I average about 450-500. That is more than enough speed for me. The only time you're going to get full speed is a wired connection. ANd my wired connection is always about 940-950

Yep - fully understand. my wired connection goes to the xbox for gaming/streaming so that's fine.

I also have my own modem/router that I currently use with SL. Hoping that can work with this one?

Part of my install offer was a free wifi 6 eero mesh system. I love it. Huge upgrade over my old netgear nighthawk. Ad you won't need your modem.

yeah I think mine said 3 months of it free. I'll check.

I've had it for over a year and have never had an issue.

over a year in and very few service interruptions, and always getting the advertised speed

Have it and love it. So far, Frontier is as good as Optimum is bad.

They will actually charge you $59.99.

You get a box outside converting fiber to coax. It requires power, so they will drill a hole in your wall to run a line to it. You get 2 boxes inside, one that converts coax to cat5, and a router. You also get the eero. None of the equipment is yours to keep. The eero has a nice signal, and transitions well from point to point.

I've had 1 disruption in the past 2 months. I expected a lot more considering the number of installations they are doing. I cannot convey how amazing the service techs have been. The ones I've interacted with were longtime employees, genuinely kind and seemingly happy.

Find someone to refer you. They get $100 and you get something too.

Before cancelling Suddenlink - Disable autopay - Disable paperless billing - Determine how much you will owe - Save off the last 3 months of statements. You will not have access to your account after you cancel. Verify what equipment you will need to return, and that you have it.

When you return your equipment, take a video, starting with the serial numbers and ending with the equipment hitting the bottom of the drop box. It's that bad.

Call them a month later to make sure everything is in good standing.

thanks and good looking out. Already canceled autopay and paperless. I own my own modem/router so nothing to return to them other than one final phone call to cancel.

I was told the mesh system was mine. Free offer as part of my install. might have just been an early promotion for my area or something maybe.

yeah it may be free in total and i misread the 3 mo's.

I also noted Eero plus typically requires a subscription fee but seems to be provided by Frontier. Maybe I'll call and ask because the installer specifically told me it was free to use but not to keep.

Huh. I'll be interested to hear what you find. I would've switched anyway, but that was a cool bonus for me.

I've been a SL customer for far too long! But, I knew I was moving to another spot in town (Frontier only recently came to my current neighborhood). So I switched to Frontier for the new house and everything got hooked up today. $59.99/month and includes all equipment (modem, main Eero hub device, and a separate Eero access point to increase coverage). I also get a $200 gift card after 90 days. Rate is good for 36 months. My wireless upload and download speeds from the phone are 300+ each. The wired Ethernet connection is 900+ for each. I have the 1 gig service. I will get directTV stream and call it good.

Been using it over a year, never looked back. It was very fun calling to cancel. Congrats!

the fine print on my Eero when I switched was that it's yours to keep for free as long as you keep the service for at least a year.

+1 for the Frontier Giga Fiber. Like it so far although I've noticed less than stellar performance/speeds on the Wi-Fi during high traffic periods. I could go hardwire but it's not feasible with my desk set up and I'd need to run the cord.

Love the price though!

11 months into the 1 Gb service - so far so good. I was looking at a mesh anyway and the installer shows up with an Eero mesh as part of the install. Switched to DirecTV Stream for TV. Had a box at first but ditched it for Amazon Firestick. ...All is well with my soul.

Just a note on the referral money…I spoke with the rep. around our area while it was being setup, and he said if you take the referral money then you can't just up and leave within either a year or two year period. It sounded like it was a binding contract-type item, so to speak. If you decline the referral money, then you are free to up and leave whenever if you want. Just something I was told.

Starting the process of switching to them now.
Looking forward to dropping (sub) Optimum, whatever their name is this week.

So far it's been great. Install process was easy.

Optimum threw everything at me to try and stay, compare side to side etc. They made it difficult to quit em but I already had made the decision so that was that.

If you do still have SL/optimum, call and threaten to leave for frontier 1 gig @ $59 a month. They'll hook you up.

Also-optimum has a new modem/router that apparently provides way better service than the old SL ones that they offered to install free with no rental. They said SL didn't have that technology. I told them had they been more proactive when they acquired SL about that type of stuff maybe I wouldn't have changed.
