High schools scrambling to reschedule their games from Friday to Thursday, due to a forecast (often wrong...) of possible rain.
Disrupting Thursday AND Friday classes, education can just wait...
This on the heels of dismal academic ratings numbers for public schools, for 2020-2021.

If it can work out I don't see a problem with it. Teams practice hard as do bands, cheer squads, and dance teams. Would you rather have a makeup game? What gets bumped then with them playing a game at a later time than originally scheduled?

Agreed! Daughter is in band and now we have to travel 2 hours for an away game Thursday, home around 1-2am, school at 8.20am. Friday is going to suck for all these students. Why not move it to Saturday?

I think CSHS is performing in a contest in San Antonio on Saturday morning. They wouldn't make a Saturday game.

Doubtful the school districts want to compete with an Aggie home football game. Might not be enough law enforcement resources to do both.

Move it to Thursday but don't expect the band to attend.

I have a novel idea.... play the game in the rain. Football is not a fair weather sport.

Trying to play weather man to avoid some rain...and mud? What have we come to? This never happens 18 years ago under my Friday night lights experience. Might as well give them both Ws and participation trophies. Ridiculous.

Just an FYI, the CSHS-Hendrickson game has been scheduled for Thursday since the schedule came out because Pflugerville is a shared stadium.

This was not one of the games that was moved.

Almost all fields are artificial turf now, so my guess is they are trying to avoid lightning delays, which have become very strict in the last 10 years or so.
Yeah, well, sometimes nothing is a real cool hand

That would be great! The band is always the last out of the lot, having to load all the equipment after the game. Not to mention they have practice at 6.30am the morning of the game, so up at 5.15am, bed at 1-2am. Or let the band head out after halftime. I think their mental well being for schoolwork is more important than playing the second half.

Of course the AD's can "work it out", but last minute changes for sports will effect academic schedules....the reason kids are in school. Thursday night varsity games are dumb, scheduled or as a "reschedule", due to the impact on class schedules, and the amount of students involved.
And again, the academic reports for the last two years, and efforts to improve them, should take precedence over "weather forecasts", so often wrong.

This. When I was in high school, if it rained, the football team still played. The cheerleaders and dance team had their rain gear, the woodwinds for the band left their instruments in the case but were in the stands with the rest of the band who was ready to add to the Friday Night Lights atmosphere. When did we decided high schoolers were a bunch of marshmallows?

None of the rescheduling is just because of rain.

It's the threat of severe weather and lightening.

They sometimes push them to Wednesdays if there's enough lead time. Often they're just cancelled though.

Avoiding something like the 3+ hour lightning delay one of the Aggie games had at the beginning of the season.

Cshs had a long lightning delay on their first or second home game this season. They started the game very late and the opposing team had a LONG trip back home very late.

So, no... it is not about these kids not being tough like some of you were in your Glory Days. This is not a nice, English rain shower that is expected Friday night. Its a storm predicted to have lightning, hail, and a chance of tornados.

And it's a good thing too, because CSHS leaves for San Antonio at 3:00am for their contest performance Saturday morning at 8:30. Hope the storms have moved through by then!

just like every other event predicted here in that last five years? And like 96% of those, it will likely amount to nothing, but it sure gets those eyeballs on Shel and his compadres.

and to the 3 hour lightning delay for the A&M game. Wasn't it something like and hour into the delay before it even started to rain?

If the school didn't plan based on current reports, you'd have more parents angry because there was a 2 hour delay.

And the delays are not because it is going to rain, they are due to lightning in the area.

Seriously if people are going to get so angry/upset about something they should at least research the situation before just jumping in and showing ignorance.

I don't have a horse in the race. But this a good decision by the schools.

lol what does when it started raining matter? If there's lightning within a certain mile radius, they can't play
trouble

Yeah, Shel and his compadres definitely want to just inconvenience everyone. They aren't the only ones predicting severe weather for Friday.

Dude, if lightning is detected within the range set by UIL or SEC, play is suspended. Better to reschedule than to have to find safe cover for teams, bands, spectators, etc.

All parents complaining about bands schedule, maybe the band doesn't need to play at football games if it's too much for them?
Rest of us wouldn't have to sit through a 30 minute halftime then
