I moved to Castlegate this summer and the mosquitos at my house are BAD. Mosquito Joe has come out twice but no real difference. Does anyone else in Castlegate have this problem?
Is this available locally? I normally hesitate to spray poison in our back yard as we have dogs and some sensitive landscaping but we are getting eaten alive this year. Never had mosquitos this bad - we can't even go outside right now. We're in Woodlake, and on the lake, so I get it, but this is ridiculous.CS78 said:
Permithren 36.8% or higher (not the 10%). Mix as directed in a 1 or 2 gallon pump sprayer and follow directions. Tends to work well for about 3 weeks. Keeping up with around your porches will help a lot with keeping them out of the house.
The weaker stuff is at Tractor Supply for sure. Might have to go to Amazon or one of the DIY pest control sites for the stronger stuff.Tailgate88 said:Is this available locally? Are you talking about the orange and black tubes you fill with water and hang around the perimeter of your property?EBrazosAg said:
Get the Spartan Mosquito control product. I've used it for 4 years and can't say enough about it's efficacy when used the entire season. Producers used to carry them - may still. I just get online.

I've got four more tubes ready but I think I'll wait until we see an increase before I deploy them. So far we are not seeing many at all. I was hoping it was the Spartan but based on the lack of interest in this thread I'm guessing they are just not out in force yet.
You just need to taunt them a second time.AggiePhil said:
Need some Castlegate mosquito NIMBY memes, Duffle.
For us it has depended on the year. A couple of summers ago it was not bad until late in the summer/early fall. Then this summer we have struggled with them all summer long. In fact, I am still seeing some mosquitos because it has continued to be so warm. I have done just about everything but put in a misting system and nothing seems to help when they are bad.Nutmegger said:
Is this still a big issue? Looking at a couple of houses that backup to a retention pond on the west side of Castlegate II, but mosquitos were my first thought. I noticed it was mentioned in some HOA notes that were available online in 2020, but I never saw if there was a solution to resolve the issue.
In would be better to go get some mesquite dunks and cut into pieces and put in any standing water areas that you see around in your yard and out into the green space. The dunks do not harm other insects or animals.Builder93 said:
Mosquito are bad everywhere. Quit spraying pesticides and deal with it. You are not only killing mosquitos, you are killing every other creature that pollenates our plants. The next thing you'll gripe about about is that you can't find any honey.
Same here near Lyons. Mosquitos have been worse than I have ever seen here, even during the dry months. I have donated dunks and asked my neighbors with unused/half full above ground pools to please place them in their pools or better yet drain them! I looked at their pools and didnt see any wigglers but they're coming from somewhere!!!aggie-1997 said:For us it has depended on the year.
