About as janky a job tonight at 10 as possible. Either handle the break ins, shel and his computer timing out or Darryl and his broke sports report or just call yourself KAGS imho……very unimpressed compared to prior stress events. Gray should take notice.

Dear diary……

Well considering they ran a long weather run up until 10 on the channel I will give them benefit of the doubt. The content they gave was more important than how it came across to you. They did a great job tracking the storms and they got a long night to go.
We'll win this war, but we'll win it only by fighting and by showing the Germans that we've got more guts than they have, or ever will have. We're not going to just shoot the sons-of-b******, were going to rip out their living G*******d guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We're going to murder those lousy Hun c********** by the bushel-f****** basket. War is a bloody killing business. You've got to spill their blood or they will spill yours. Rip them up the belly. Shot them in the guts.

I like how they had to spend time to tell us that the pandemic isn't over and we must get the shots to help "protect others."

A nuke could go off in town and they'd still spend a few minutes talking about the virus.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

In the meantime, Madisonville got hit.

Hello KBTX... Covid is done. We aren't going back.

I usually tell people when they talk like this...

if you think you can do better, then by all means, feel free to do so..

I found it to be the best source for minute-by-minute tornado possibilities. Is there a better forum for hyper local weather reporting?

Ryan Hall - full coverage w/o ads and six storm chasers converging on B/CS when the fan got hit.

We're out of town and watched online to see what was happening. They did a great job of providing information. Thank you, KBTX. We're lucky to have you.

Shel was live during the entire time that the weather was in and past Madisonville. Once the weather left B/CS people were asking about regular programing on Facebook Live. He politely, but pointedly, informed them that there were still people dealing with destructive weather in the viewing area.

People can gripe all that they want about KBTX, but the weather team was top notch last night.

KBTX weather team did a great job last night. The in-the-moment analysis of the radar showing accurately where the storm was heading and what was happening on the ground was terrific.

We have fast forwarded through the news sections every night for the past six months at least. Weather and sports are fine. That's all I will say.

I don't think anyone is dissing the weather team's coverage.

I enjoy thumping KBTX, but that's more directed at the general newscast. The weather team has always done a good job when severe weather is visiting the area and did last night as well.

Ya ryan was totally on top of it. Funny how the guys that started on the storm in the Luling area and the ones on the RoundRock ended up here exactly at the same time. Thing I thought was slightly interesting was the pictures he had from Reed Timmer showing the tornado in the lightning flashes from 60 and 47 looking west on the youtube stream while kbtx was saying there is not currently a tornado on the ground. Everyone was working hard but Ryan is a good source for info with minimal hype.

Shel wasn't saying there weren't tornados on the ground.
What he said, several times, was that it was hard to confirm them at night. He also said that while they couldn't verify them, people needed to treat the situation as if there were and to take shelter.
When there were confirmed touch downs, he gave the locations.

I have things I don't like about KBTX as well but I thought the weather coverage was fantastic. I think some of you try to find things to get mad at them about.

On the weather - I agree. The commentary on COVID, not so much. Ever hear of the phrase "read the room"? No one was concerned about COVID last night.

The KBTX Weather team did a great job last night. While I don't typically watch local news I rely on KBTX weather coverage in all of our potential severe weather coverage.

KBTX went downhill after 1990s. It was best with Jenni Lee, Orelon Sidney, Bob French and my favorite married anchors: Tony and Laura Cornett! I haven't watched it in years. Sad.

To me, for a relatively small market, they do a good job. We basically are a training job for newspersons to move to larger markets.

The covid news does get old. A one minute summary on Covid once a week at most would be enough. We probably have had more than 25,000 large sporting events and indoor concerts over the past few months with no major outbreak infections, deaths and ICU room occupancies going up. At this point in time, it's run its course here for the masses. Just live your life smartly.
