April 30 - May 1 are the ride dates. That's a Saturday/Sunday. Sunday is the day we care about locally.
This time last year we were talking about the MS150 as possibly a big disruption to traffic all over town from several directions then it rained at the wrong time and none of it happened. Last year's event was a one day with multiple routes from Houston and La Grange which is what created the potential for so many problems. This year's ride is a more traditional event with a two day schedule of Houston and Austin to La Grange on Saturday then LaGrange to College Station on Sunday. With everyone coming in from La Grange the disruption around town will be significantly less but I figured I'd lay out the route here just the same so everyone is aware of what's happening.
There's actually two routes out of La Grange but they meet up just east of Carmine so from BCS perspective there's one route. Lunch will be in Somerville at Lake Somerville Lookout. Riders will be there by probably 10.
From there we'll ride across the dam to 7th Street.
Through town on 7th to Ave E where we'll take a left then a right on 8th.
We'll cross 36 on 8th which becomes 1361.
We'll take 1361 to 2155 and turn left on 2155 and stay on that into Snook.
This is where it'll start to be a possible problem.
We'll take FM 60 out of Snook and stay on it all the way to Olsen Blvd on West Campus.
Right on Olsen Blvd and follow that to Old Main Dr.
Left on Old Main under Wellborn Rd.
Right at Simpson.
Right at the MSC.
Left on Joe Route.
Right on Houston and into the parking lot at the SE corner of Kyle.
Somerville is right at 50 miles in so the last 30 miles are laid out above. It's been awhile since I've been to Snook but it looks like 60 has become a four lane divided highway from there all the way into town which is good because they'll close off the east bound right lane and shoulder for the cyclists so it'll be annoying but not so bad that people try to do dangerous things to get around us.
Expect riders to start finishing the event around 1 with the majority finished by 4. Plan on that part of town being difficult all afternoon. The map shows us following regular traffic pattern so I'm kind of assuming they'll close the exit from northbound 2818 to 60. I'll find out the traffic plan for the intersection of 2818 and 60 from the traffic officers and update this thread when I know the plan there.
Baseball is at Vanderbilt that weekend which on a personal note is kind of cool. For the first time my 71 year old dad is doing the ride. He's a Vanderbilt grad and has become an A&M fan over the years so even though he's a bit slower than me we're going to do Sunday together which will be fun. My mom and sister both have MS so he's doing this to honor them. I'm well on track for fund raising but last year a couple of people donated from this board so if you'd like to again please donate to his page. Harrison Beasley MS150 Page If you do so thank you so much!
Thanks in advance for your patience. I know cyclists can be annoying and the traffic disruptions are as well. There's currently 5500+ riders signed up so I'm thinking we'll land around 8000. This really is a fun event for the riders and the volunteers along the way. There will be LEO's at every intersection controlling traffic with a bias towards keeping the riders moving. Just be patient and the officers will get everyone through the intersections safely.

The federal government was never meant to be this powerful.
