April 30 - May 1 are the ride dates. That's a Saturday/Sunday. Sunday is the day we care about locally.

This time last year we were talking about the MS150 as possibly a big disruption to traffic all over town from several directions then it rained at the wrong time and none of it happened. Last year's event was a one day with multiple routes from Houston and La Grange which is what created the potential for so many problems. This year's ride is a more traditional event with a two day schedule of Houston and Austin to La Grange on Saturday then LaGrange to College Station on Sunday. With everyone coming in from La Grange the disruption around town will be significantly less but I figured I'd lay out the route here just the same so everyone is aware of what's happening.

There's actually two routes out of La Grange but they meet up just east of Carmine so from BCS perspective there's one route. Lunch will be in Somerville at Lake Somerville Lookout. Riders will be there by probably 10.

From there we'll ride across the dam to 7th Street.
Through town on 7th to Ave E where we'll take a left then a right on 8th.
We'll cross 36 on 8th which becomes 1361.
We'll take 1361 to 2155 and turn left on 2155 and stay on that into Snook.
This is where it'll start to be a possible problem.
We'll take FM 60 out of Snook and stay on it all the way to Olsen Blvd on West Campus.
Right on Olsen Blvd and follow that to Old Main Dr.
Left on Old Main under Wellborn Rd.
Right at Simpson.
Right at the MSC.
Left on Joe Route.
Right on Houston and into the parking lot at the SE corner of Kyle.

Somerville is right at 50 miles in so the last 30 miles are laid out above. It's been awhile since I've been to Snook but it looks like 60 has become a four lane divided highway from there all the way into town which is good because they'll close off the east bound right lane and shoulder for the cyclists so it'll be annoying but not so bad that people try to do dangerous things to get around us.

Expect riders to start finishing the event around 1 with the majority finished by 4. Plan on that part of town being difficult all afternoon. The map shows us following regular traffic pattern so I'm kind of assuming they'll close the exit from northbound 2818 to 60. I'll find out the traffic plan for the intersection of 2818 and 60 from the traffic officers and update this thread when I know the plan there.

Baseball is at Vanderbilt that weekend which on a personal note is kind of cool. For the first time my 71 year old dad is doing the ride. He's a Vanderbilt grad and has become an A&M fan over the years so even though he's a bit slower than me we're going to do Sunday together which will be fun. My mom and sister both have MS so he's doing this to honor them. I'm well on track for fund raising but last year a couple of people donated from this board so if you'd like to again please donate to his page. Harrison Beasley MS150 Page If you do so thank you so much!

Thanks in advance for your patience. I know cyclists can be annoying and the traffic disruptions are as well. There's currently 5500+ riders signed up so I'm thinking we'll land around 8000. This really is a fun event for the riders and the volunteers along the way. There will be LEO's at every intersection controlling traffic with a bias towards keeping the riders moving. Just be patient and the officers will get everyone through the intersections safely.

Glad to see it's on a 4 lane rd where they can have their own lane. We got stuck behind it on a 2 lane hwy traveling from south Louisiana to the hill country about 20 years ago and that was the biggest cluster I had ever come across.

Nice! Thanks for riding for a great charity and thanks for giving us a heads up. Good luck to you and your dad. (And everyone riding)

Update on traffic at 2818 and 60. The company that coordinates traffic for the Sunday route is a client of mine so I brought up my concerns over traffic there particularly the exit from northbound 2818 onto University. Likewise the owner brought that up to the race directors and after looking at the intersection and alternatives they've moved us entirely away from that interchange. Now we'll

Come into town from Snook and exit Turkey Creek and turn left.
Take Turkey Creek to F&B and turn right onto F&B.
Take F&B to Agronomy and turn right onto Agronomy.
Cross University onto Olsen Blvd which is back onto the original course.

I like this change a lot as I think that interchange would have been a mess.

I wanted to drop a quick thanks for the couple of folks on here that contributed to my dad's fundraising effort. We've gotten him across the finish line to qualify for the ride.

REALLY appreciate that!

Bump. Reminder the event is this weekend. Riders will likely start finishing around 1 on Sunday and trickle in probably til 3 or 4. It's 82 miles from La Grange with decent hills which will slow us down but a steady tail wind that will push us along.

Thanks in advance to everyone for their patience on the streets.

I want to do this next year if the route is the same.

I BELIEVE it's set for 2023 to follow the same basic route. Obviously we may be deviations of the specific routes but the finish in at Kyle again IIRC. It was originally two years minimum but that's yet to happen so this is year 1 as I understand it. After that I have a hard time believing it won't stay here as I've heard Austin doesn't want it back and I'm not sure where else you'd go.

We have a friend from the Houston area riding in tomorrow. Exciting stuff.

How did our bike riders feel about the finish in College Station? I hope they liked it.

Friend of mine that has ridden several times in this event liked it. Fewer hills and some pretty views. Only one stretch between La Grange and here that he didn't like much.

Our friend, who rides it every year, said the road conditions were poor somewhere after lunch at Lake Somerville. There was a bad section that everyone had to really slow down.

I thought for a first year to a new location this went really well. The communities we stopped in turned out in big numbers to man the breaks and it was well done.

Someone mentioned Somerville roads and yes some of those were TERRIBLE. A few years ago (2018?) and then again last weekend I did the St Joes ride to Somerville and they were terrible then so I wasn't surprised. It would be nice if they would rebuild a few of them instead of just filling in holes. It's almost like riding on cobblestone. And despite being asked to shut in down for a few hours apparently the rail yard in Somerville blocked the crossing on 1361 leaving town for awhile which was annoying. I missed that but I've had it happen before. The rail companies act like they're above being good citizens so I'm not surprised.

Someone else said a rider thought there were fewer hills which is interesting because I thought Sunday was at least as hard as the "challenge course" through Bastrop State Park when we finished in Austin. I came through a bit late because we got started late then I did the first 15-17 with a dad who is a lot slower than me. He caught the van from Carmine to Burton then to Somerville and there were close to 100 riders at each place doing the same. Where I think there will be criticism is that there wasn't an "easy" route on Sunday like they had when it went to Austin. Everyone rode the hills and a lot of people just weren't capable with a lot of folks walking them.

Still it's a really fun event and dad had a great time doing his first one. We didn't cross the finish line together because we split up when he decided to catch the van but he was all smiles when he entered Kyle Field and that was fun to see. If you don't know what he's been through the past 7 years it's crazy so to see him doing this was a great feeling.

Kyle Field finish line was great. Kind of surreal to ride into it and around the track then the Jumbotron was fixed on the finish line you you saw yourself finish which was neat. A lot of people cheering on the 12th Man Plaza, they were calling out riders crossing the finish line, etc. Definitely made it feel like an accomplishment to finish.

For those of you that contributed to dad's fundraising thanks again. My clients took good care of me but you literally can't ride if you don't meet the $400 minimum so getting him some help was my priority and TexAgs answered the bell. I'll post a picture of the two of us later today.
