I just heard about this place today. The next afternoon that the weather is nice and a bit warmer I'm going to take the kids over for a bit of a hike. It looks like the view is pretty amazing for this area. Has anyone been there?

Does anyone know of any other hidden gems within about an hour like this? We go to State Parks pretty regularly and are always looking for cool places to explore.

It is on private property.

I heard about it (and stories to go with it from Old Ags) but didn't know exactly where it was. I finally went last month as part of a geology field trip. Unfortunately it was cloudy that day and you couldn't see more than a couple of miles.

The old bridge (on highway 265) across the little river is interesting. The "mountain" is hidden by trees.
It is a nice drive through Gause, but I think 2095 up the little river valley is more scenic.

thats what private property means...

There used to be a road straight up to it, but about 30 years ago someone blocked it off with a fence...

i've been there twice, but as i said, it was 30 years ago, when you were allowed to go...

now i dont think you're allowed...

Don't trespass. That is wrong.
Apparently the owner didn't realize the history until he bought the place and folks kept ignoring the signs. He tried to approach the community about sectioning off that parcel and turning into a park so he no longer needed to worry about liability but I don't know how that turned out.
Personally, when you have a landowner willing to do that in a state that doesn't have a great deal of public land, I'd think it worthy of consideration.
