This is our first year to have a garden and we have tomatoes, greens, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts currently planted in the ground. Any ideas on what we should use to cover them? I have light items like painting tarps and a comforter which I'm afraid might be too heavy. Any suggestions from seasoned gardeners on what to use and how to keep them from crushing the crops?

Bed sheets are light and will work as well. Use stakes to keep off of plants if you are worried the covering is too heavy.

It sounds like most of your veggies are cool season crops, no need to cover. Your tomato bush I would pick what you can. Most cultivars stop flowering when temps drop this low.

Thanks guys! I used sheets for the past two nights and things seemed to have worked pretty well. I'm interested in the covers from Lowe's, although they don't carry them locally, so I'm ordering some for later winter weather!
