New Wayback burger (Caprock)

I just went to the new Wayback burger for what is probably the first and last time.

I got one of their burgers (no modifications -- just ordered it as it came on the menu). I got one side (again, no mods). The order was "to go".

When I walked in, there were perhaps 8 people total in the place, including 2 guys who walked in just in front of me. It took 5 minutes for their order to be placed.

I placed my order, and waited. And waited. And waited. The place was not busy, but it took 18 minutes from the time printed on my receipt until my food was ready to go.

That just isn't going to cut it during the lunch hour. If you can't have a burger/sandwich and side ready in roughly 5 minutes in a mostly-empty restaurant, you're doing it wrong.

Depends on if they made the burger to order. If they had to cook the beef patty, it takes longer than 5 minutes, or you're getting a bloody patty.

I'm surprised that the first one has stayed open. Shocked that they've opened more.

Never tried them. I can't get past either Harvey Washbanger's or Top of the Hill (if I have time to drive to Benchley). Best two burgers in the area, IMO.

Mooyah manages to get me a non-bloody-patty made-to-order burger in less than 18 minutes, and that's with a busier store than Wayback seemed to be to me.

I wanted to give the new place a try, but it didn't impress.

Anyone gone back a second time to Texas Burger on Wellborn? That was a one-and-done for me.

Yep. Damn good burger . The onion rings are awesome. Def # 1 on my burger list.

Had a similar experience.

Only a couple of people ahead of me. Took five minutes for them to order, took 15-20 minutes for me to get my food. Wayyyyy too long when it's lunchtime.

They need to get their act together if they want to make it since Mooyah is right across the highway, serves pretty much the same thing for the same price and only takes about 5 minutes to get your order out.

We really didn't need an announcement.

May have to give them another try. I'd hoped they were as good as Texas Burger along I45 (Madisonville, etc) but was greatly disappointed.

I do like TX Burger on Wellborn.

We stopped in the Tx Ave location a while back, and left unimpressed.
We went to the Caprock location last week, and decided we will not be returning.

Issues:
23 minutes from pay to food on the table. There were 2 orders before ours.. a single and a group of 4.

The burger was fair.
Fries were lukewarm.
No unsweet tea

I had a similar experience to everyone else. Slow, ok burger, > $10 for the burger with fries & drink. I can go to Grub or Fuddrucker's if I want to spend $10 on a lunch and get a vastly superior burger.

I have been twice and both times were fine. Good food, hot food and good service. I will go again, maybe this weekend. Thanks for reminding me.

Glad to be of service! The one time I was there, the meat was cold, the buns hard, and the whole thing was rather tasteless. Must have just been a bad day.

They just need to sell out to Five Guys.

Agreed. The wait and management of this place is unacceptable. Too many quality choices for me to waste time in this place. Bring on Five Guys.

Didn't even know we had a tx burger near us. I'll have to check it out.

I agree--but they do have an issue with speed! I have always had to wait a long time.

I can almost guarantee that most of the people that complain about crap like that have never owned a business, started a business or run a business!!

And businesses who provide poor customer service are soon out of business. And I've never owned a business, but have frequented a few.

Yes they do!! But to run over to a local website to post a negative review to me is just childish

slow is not good...slow, bad and over priced is a formula for failure
I went to Texas Ave. location about a week or so after opening...wan't that slow
for me, but pedestrian food with nothing special or even good, plus waaaaaaaay over priced.
will never go back

You heard it first here folks... people that own and run a business get a pass on bad service and average products. So, if you frequent a business like this, please keep your mouth shut and let everyone else have that same experience as you... it's only fair to the business owner... he can't help it if you just have too high of standards!

No, what I am saying is that it's not easy to actually put your money where your mouth is and invest in a business. Lots of posters here love to run to this forum and bath mouth a business ( with zero consequences to them)
Rather then talk to the owner to try and HELP him or her improve the business, instead, they can not wait to post how X business wasn't up to their standards, and in doing so possible hurting that business to the point of no recovery........since forums like these are read by the thousands in a week.

If starting and running a business was that easy, even some of you nancies would be actually able to start and run one....but since that is NOT the case......here you are, like little school girls running your mouths.

Yes, obviously there are VALID complaints but next time at least try to talk to the business rather then run to this forum to get your kicks!

By the way Merry Christmas to everybody, I'm off to celebrate with friends and family for the rest of the holidays, so flame away!! : )

This sure seems like straight up trolling for flames. Slow, overpriced, and subpar foods for the price are all valid complaints. It's not like we are calling them names or something just sharing experiences which is exactly what a local message board is meant to be used for.

I know I am free to share good experiences with local places as well, that is what this forum is made for.

I was one and done as well. Very unimpressed. The Chevron Station (Max's) in close proximity is far better.

Every time I read these threads it amazes me how many people eat out for lunch. How often do you make lunch at home?

McDonald's and Whataburger are faster for those on a time crunch.

I went to the one in South CS and didn't have a great experience the first time. The food was ok, but I have a weird thing about people saying hello to you, and the guy was taking a phone order for 10 minutes with a line of 15+ people and never looked up. It happens. I gave it a pass.

The second time I went back the experience was entirely good!
We need more variety in this area so I hope it can make it.
