My family usually ends up at chain restaurant or the likes of longhorn tavern or Joses.

Always wanting to try different places... What's your goto spot that's not as commercial in BCS?

Taste of BCS is a consortium of locally owned restaurants.
Not comprehensive, but a good start.
The webpage lists restaurants with links to their website.
If you join there are dates for discounted e-certificates and a way to earn points.

Lamar & Niki's Soul Food and Pit BBQ. They serve BBQ on Friday and Saturdays only, but it is fabulous!!! Strange hours, though. They are only open from 11AM to 4PM. Closed Sunday and Monday.

This is a great list. I would add Luigi's on Rock Prairie to the Italian. I actually like the food and atmosphere there more than Paolo's although both are good.

on game weekends Longhorn Tavern in downtown Bryan is a great option. It's a large enough facility that they can sit most parties without a terrible wait even at peak times

I think the same guy who runs the cheddars opened the fish daddys.

I think mad taco is opening location #2 in south CS, with plans to expand outward in the future.

Regarding Fish Daddy's, found this from 2005
