Are there any good places in south CS to practice parallel parking? Where does Safeway Driving school do theirs for their driving test? We've gone to the DPS office to practice but it's quite the drive - was looking for something closer to home so we could swing by more often.

Not sure where you can do this, but when your kid does the exam, if they do it in Bryan, make sure they know they cannot touch the curb at all when doing the backing-up test right after the parallel parking test. Just a bare touch of the curb = Instant failure before you even get out of the parking lot.

Just go to the DMV after hours in Bryan and practice there where they give the test.
I just set up one of our cars on our street with our trash can as a faux secondary vehicle for my daughter. She literally parked dozens of times over a week and then had no problem.

I believe that's a fail anywhere you take it.
Parallel parking is stupid. I can do it, but if there is another spot somewhere else, that's when I'm going. I honestly don't even remember doing this through the DMV when I got my license. I know I did it in school with drivers ed or whatever it was called back then.
To keep this on point, I'd go do it at the DMV after hours as well. My neighbor has a clay flower pot with a pole that they are using. Maybe a bicycle flag or something, I'm not sure. Seems to work well and they can do it in their driveway.

At nights & weekends the lots out in Research Park are empty. I practiced with my kid out behind the TTI building. Look at the satellite view and you can see the parking lot. Lots of wide open space.

Parallel parking may seem outdated and stupid, but I think it demonstrates that you can control your vehicle and make it do what you want it to do. Someone who can't parallel park is not much better at parking in a crowded grocery store parking lot.
Just go to HEB parking lot. Use some cones or trash cans.
You can do it just about anywhere. Get some sidewalk chalk and draw lines for a parking place.
The old DMV office in Bryan has a nice set up. Took my driving test there.
Pretty soon all vehicles will parallel park themselves anyway.
