Tornado warning in Burleson and Washington county. May start seeing some activity creep up towards south CS. Stay alert people.

Doesn't help that my phone keeps buzzing every 10 minutes to tell me we are a flood hazard warning. I get it. Don't buzz unless I need to take cover. I have work in the morning.

Helo's flying all over bcs this morning. Assuming rescue missions are ongoing. Everyone be safe

Come in from hwy 21 and should be no problem.

Wow how big?
Picture I saw looked like EF2

It was a spin-up, thus the reason for lack of warning. They usually aren't "strong".

I wouldn't characterize a borderline EF2 tornado as a spinup. EF2 tornadoes are what the NWS considers "strong" so this was a significant tornado. Honestly we had forecast failure on the part of the NWS as they didn't anticipate the severity of the storms that came through that day.
A second and third tornadoes went through just south of Navasota as well.
Also, It blows me away that BCS does not have tornado sirens. Its really indefensible for a town that gets the frequency of tornadic storms of BCS not to have an outdoor warning system. For crying outloud we have a siren on campus for lightning strikes but not tornadoes!

As much as we (collective 'we' here folks) like to rag on the Councils of the twin cities, I disagree in this particular instance. Cannot speak for Bryan, but College Station has invested in lightning detectors and this is money better spent IMO. Your odds of getting struck and killed by lightning are much greater than a tornado.
It is possible to debate all sorts of scenarios on where to apply taxpayer resources, and I am not minimizing the danger nor the destructiveness of tornadoes, but personally, they were not something we relied on in our community growing up even though we had them.
Edit: referring to post above rhoswen's.

A simple tip for when the power goes out... Keep your cable modem and wifi router plugged into a UPS. I had solid Internet through suddenlink for the 30 minutes we were without power.
quote:Actually, you're not more likely to be killed by lightning.
