I saw a dead house cat on the road today....pretty crazy stuff. It was black and white...any ideas as to what kind? Maybe half black/albino panther?

I know a couple of people who have seen one near Wylie.
Was walking a piece of property located off Highway 30 by Enchanted Oaks last week and saw very large cat prints in the dirt. Too large for a bobcat. Figured the animal was probably a mountain lion.
I grew up at Fort Stockton (west of the Pecos since it was brought up) and I recall the one time a mountain lion sighting was confirmed it was such a big deal you'd have thought Sasquatch had been captured.
Given the size of these cats and the very small size of most parcels of land in the BCS area I don't believe there are any around. If there were everyone would have seen them.

Thank you to those of you who had serious (or even funny) replies. I know this might be hard for a couple of you to comprehend , but I actually know the difference between a dog and a mountain lion. Its pretty smug of you to decide that because you haven't seen them yourself that everyone else is crazy. They won't run across a computer monitor so I'm sure several of you haven't seen one in the area. We are a county with a confirmed population.

When children and livestock start disappearing I'll believe these things dwell among us.
When was the last confirmed sighting? 20+yrs ago? No. They are not here.
Grew up in Maine where many people who'd had a little too much whisky claimed to have seen mountain lions. The Eastern Cougar went extinct in 1938 and this was finally acknowledged a few years ago after decades of attempts to prove otherwise with the flimsiest evidence imaginable. That cat is gone baby gone, and no amount of blurry eyed sightings of bobcats, yellow labs, or overweight house cats will bring it back.
Assuming the real thing ever was spotted in our august community, it was most likely a escapee from a game ranch or private zoo.
That said, I'll fess up to almost being convinced I saw a red wolf cross 21 just east of Madisonville many years ago.

Hint, a random cat wandering through doesn't make a population. No confirmed, by TPWD, in 25 years.
I was in extremely rural, northern Vermont last week. My MIL was claiming to have seen one between Lyndonville and Granby last June...not kidding. Just nod my head and not argue. I've seen more bears up there in random visit than she has seen her whole life up there (you know the lifer type that rarely leaves a 10 mile radius).
I have seen two bobcats, or one bobcat twice in Woodlake a few years ago, and also had a large, dark colored long-tailed cat run across the road at the creek bed between Sweetwater and the stop sign on Greens Prairie last winter. There are a few around...
Back in the 70's, there used to be repeated rumors of a big cat roaming the Wellborn area. There were reportedly attempts made to hunt it down, but it managed to elude any and all trackers. If it was a local resident or just passing through the area, no one ever knew.
There have also been also some rumors of late as to something large in the Iola area predating on both wildlife and farm animals. It's been a couple of years since I last heard anything, so I'll have to ask my friends out that way if there's been been any recent activity or new sitings.
As for panthers east of the Pecos, my grandfather used to tell stories about coming upon a black panther while traveling through the Big Thicket sometime in the late 1890's/early 1900's. Apparently it was quite the majestic beast, as my grandfather, who was not one to engage in tall tales or hyperbole, spoke of the encounter up until the day he died.

I don't doubt that if you saw a mtn lion and a lab side by side in the daylight, that you could tell them apart.
But the odds are against you. The majority of the people that 'know what they saw' saw a lab, golden retriever, great Pyrenees, Bob cat, etc.

And he may have seen a mountain lion which was dark brown in color or in the shadows appeared black but there's no such thing as a black panther/cougar/mountain lion. They don't have the genetics to have the melanistic (black) phase.
Jaguars can occasionally be black in color but the last jaguars have been gone from Texas for over 100 years and there were no known sightings of a black jaguar in Texas, ever. The closest one known was like 300 miles south of the Rio Grande.

I saw this one outside of town a few years ago. Pretty sure it's a black panther.

Also, I've never not gotten some version of "I know what I saw".
I'm pretty sure this was behind Pebble Creek
We live near Greens Prairie Trail and Wellborn Rd. Our neighbor caught two bobcats in October. I have a picture of one of them but don't know how to post it here. They are amazing animals, but I certainly wouldn't want to meet it on a dark street.
Don't know about mountain lions, but I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada in Trader Vic's.....
His hair was perfect!
