Especially since Martha's was stupid enough to blame the "new server" and lie about a misunderstanding. "Oh we thought she meant GUARD dog". It's like something straight out of a comedy movie.
quote:
As a follow up on the story posted 5/27. Apparently Dyson the service dog will get his day in court. Charges Filed
I suspect we have all learned a bit from this incident.
quote:Seems like many on this board have rendered judgment against the disabled woman.
The Board has spoken and rendered judgement against Martha's Bloomers! Don't challenge the Board!

Civil court is where this belongs.
Of course, then again maybe it's just me and my fatigued reaction to a world in which Our Lady of Perpetual Outrage seems to have become everyone's favorite patron saint.
quote:So true. This has gone from wanting an apology to wanting to collect as many scalps as possible.
Nothing serves to better enlighten and win over the hearts and minds of those who have wronged you than to place a criminal blot on their permanent records. Sure, it's a misdemeanor, but still. And don't accuse me of taking MB's side, as they did wrong, but as others have said, the whole thing has gotten out of hand. Civil court is where this belongs.

quote:Good summation, however Texas law at this time allows for an option of civil proceedings. However if you read the statute damages are not to exceed $300.00 in civil matter. MB has been most disingenuous with their dealing with the issue. But still don't like it, take it up with Abbot's office or your local representative for 2017.
What happened, while very minimal, was a criminal act. According to our legal system, this is the legal and proper venue. Don't like it, petition the government to change it to a civil action rather than a
criminal one.
I'm sure if MB had apologized to her directly, rather than issuing a disjointed story, semi-apology to the press, then it might appear to
her as if they took it seriously, and truly intended to correct the
problem.
quote:This attitude strikes me as similar to those who run red lights in town. Run a red light because you're in a hurry to get where you're going? Fine, but if you get caught, it's a misdemeanor.

Only a petty individual would want to brand people with a criminal record over something like this.
quote:Calm down. It's a misdemeanor, just like running a red light. The good thing about it is maybe others here locally with similar misguided attitudes will learn something. And, maybe gain some sorely needed compassion for the disabled.
Anyone who wants to see people with both a state and federal criminal record for the rest of their lives over this are very small, petty people.
Everyone has had sh*t happen to them in life and didn't have people arrested, booked, mug shots, and then tried, and convicted over it. This woman is wanting nothing more than to harm as many people as possible out of pure payback and spite.
Try getting any good job with a federal criminal record. No one should have their life ruined over this but that is what she and her supporters want.
quote:She doesn't have to press charges, but she's out for blood now and clearly nothing short of destroying 4 or 5 people's lives will satisfy her desire for revenge.quote:Calm down. quote:quote:Wow. All you folks that are blaming her for this need to spend a week or so walking in her shoes. I had retina surgery twice this year. I lost total sight in one eye for several weeks while things were healing up, and it still won't ever be 100% in that eye. Never. I have no clue what going totally blind is like, but I sure as hell have a damn healthy FEAR of it.
She's not wanting to harm people. She wants the law to be enforced.
It's not her fault they broke the law and it's not her fault that they will face some sanctions.
Quit blaming her for their mistake.
If you all think this is about flowerpots and a sandwich you are WAY wrong. This is about how a bunch of idiots in Navasota treated a blind lady badly. Embarrassed the hell out of her, and then when she called the law, they didn't even help her (more good ole Navasota boys). I hope that place shuts down. I hope she sues the crap out of them.

This isn't a simple little mistake. There was obviously an extended amount of time to have a discussion about this issue with a customer, including glancing at a labeled service dog, reading a card, and conversing with an obviously blind woman. I mean, how many clues do you need?
I guess we need to feel bad for Martha's employees since they're also apparently blind, deaf, and totally lacking interpersonal skills that would have laid this matter to rest quickly and nicely.
quote:your "police friends" sound like some real fine folks if they are publicly denigrating the service of fellow officers from other jurisdictions.
I've owned and run my own business before. I never acted like a complete idiot to a blind lady. I have plenty of police friends. I could tell you that their opinions of NPD are only a little higher than Hearne PD which is a joke. But that won't matter. Minds are made up. This is a topic that some folks just won't get the point. Thank God for ADA laws to protect the blind and the infirm.

I'm not going to see the "jerk blind lady trying to ruin the business of some proud business owner" angle. Y'all aren't going to see the whole "compassion for the handicapped" angle I have.

Nothing shy of dog pack mentality.
Look for the impaired and kick 'em down.
I've witnessed people in groups of three verbally attacking a handicapped person. Basically, these are sick people.
I think the hecklers should hang out at the handicapped car spaces and judge every person that gets out of the car. Based on your expertise, you can let the person know what you think. Please bring first aid items with you. If you insult someone, they might come after you.
For those thinking she wants money, I say she is an Advocate. Advocates work hard when there plight continues to suffer. If you know American history, or if you follow the news, this occurs every single day in the USA.
