I had received a mailer last month for College Station Detail and was just wondering if anyone had ever used them? If so, your thoughts? How much did they charge and for what type of vehicle? What all did it include? Just wondering how they compared to places like Shammy, Wolf Creek, and Pitt Stop

Edit: it says they will come to you anywhere in B/CS

ttt hand wash and detail?

I'm hoping so, no machines scraping my paint

That was easy.

Seems pretty pricey to me. I'd rather go to Shammy.

No offense MrsC, but Shammy's machines will leave swirl marks on your car.

A full detail should go way beyond what Shammy offers.

thank you techno. and it should be done by hand with microfiber towels, not with machines that scratch paint.

I shot them an email, maybe they'll show up here and introduce themselves.

There just isn't a lot of profit in this detailing. I love doing it. Just hard too get folks too pay for top shelf work with top shelf products.

Go to Pitt Stop instead. They rock.

They detailed a new Hellcat at a recent car show I visited. I was impressed. You don't pick just anyone to detail a car like that.

I mean, I understand if you have a really expensive car or maybe once a year. But it's hard to spend that kind of money on detailing a car that will just get dirty again.

Don't get me wrong, I will pay to get my cars carpets shampooed once a year or so etc but it's hard to justify half a car payment on a detail job. Just my opinion.

This is really good pricing for the services they are offering.

I don't know them nor have I seen their work, but 200 bones for a clay bar, cut, and polish PLUS an interior detail is pretty cheap. This is easily a full day's work out in the hot sun.

I actually might get them to do my wife's car if it looks like the rain would stop for a week or two....

People have their car detailed for a number of reasons. Some enjoy a really clean car but don't have the time or inclination to do it themselves. Others have their car detailed before selling it. Really it's an individual's choice and not subject to your judgment. If people wish to spend their money on a detail and others are willing to provide that service, more power to them.

To me... a good detail is always done by hand from start to finish. Not a machine that leaves it swirled and wet after going through a tunnel and then having to tip someone to dry it off the rest of the way.

Lol. I wasn't judging anyone. we all have our opinions and that is okay.

I, myself, couldn't justify that kind of money for my car to just get dirty again. Again, my opinion. If you want to spend that, it's your business.

A good detail could be by hand. A better one is with the proper machines and products. As far as the hell cat detail, how bad could have the car been? Fairly new I would assume.

I agree. I checked some prices for mobile detailing in the Austin area and you don't get near that for $200. Clay bar alone is a ton of work.

Howdy guys, I saw this thread earlier today as I was checking to see if any other mobile detailers had used the Aggieland board for marketing. I would encourage you all to check out the thread I started and let me know if you're interested.

I generally try to do waterless washes with most cars I detail. Water is harmful to most non-living things so I try as much as possible to keep cars in the garage while it's raining and to wash them with as little water as possible.

So washing without water generally prevents the kinds of swirls and spider webbing some of you guys have lamented in this thread. It also helps when there are water restrictions in place.

Also brewmaster, please post your email or email me at wargograw AT yahoo DOT com. I'm based in Austin and can do that stuff for you.

We will definitely be giving you all a call! Literally yesterday, we ran to Shammy to have the car washed before heading out on a trip and sure enough, swirls and scratches like crazy. The car is a week old. We'll be hitting you up next week!

It was ironic yesterday that I stumbled into this thread because at that moment, the crew from College Station Detail was actually in my driveway detailing my truck. I have used another detailer in town a few times but decided to give CSD a shot as they were recommended by a friend and because I like to help new businesses. First things first, I love the fact that they are mobile. The truck is fully equipped with all professional tools needed for the job. They were willing to meet me for the detail anywhere convienant for me and that's perfect for my schedule. The appointment process was painless, they showed up when expected and were ready to work. Long story short, they fully detailed my interior, washed and waxed my exterior and revitalized my headlights. I found the price to be in line with other complete detail shops in town. The owner seems to know his "stuff", but the best parts were their attitudes, neat appearance, professionalism, willingness to answer questions, and attention to detail (pun intended). I will definatey be using them again. Just my 2 cents. Have a great day.

Not sure if prices vary, so best if you give him a call. I'd assume that prices also vary with auto in question.

MrsC: it's about how NOT to wash a high end car. Machines leave swirl marks. I only take mine to a detailer before special events, about once a year or so. Engine, undercarriage, etc. Well worth it. Rest of the year I wash in my driveway with microfiber towels and carefully selected cleaners, polishers and wax products. But the annual detailing makes the task a lot easier.

Update:

Had them remove oxidation/ haze and some finer scratches. Overall the car looks fantastic now. They did a wash and clay bar before hand, then got to buffing. No more swirls from car washes either! Our car has 130k, but doesn't look it.
