Caracara and Bald Eagles both can be seen in our area. There is at least one pair of Caracara I have seen in the area around my house occasionally for the last several years. There are also several around the Caldwell area. They are mostly scavengers, and I have seen them on deer carcasses and other roadkill.
Bald Eagles generally are only here during Fall and Winter, and usually mostly around larger bodies of water that can supply the fish they eat. Lake Somerville is home to several eagles during the winter.
I can see where some people could confuse the two, since they both have a white head as adults. Both of them are a couple of my favorite raptors to see and photograph.
